Potts post Ross County
Tuesday, 18th Nov 2014“I thought that Andy Stirling and Ryan Williamson caused a lot of problems in the first half, so in the second half County had to change the way they played.
Under 20s coach John Potter gave his thoughts to the website after watching his team defeat Ross County 3-1:-
“It was good. In the first half after about 10 minutes where they were a bit better, as soon as we scored I thought we were excellent for about 30/35 minutes. We had loads of chances, we asked them to go and get balls into the box and we did that from both sides.
"We could maybe have scored a few but got three goals and it could have been a lot more. We were delighted at half time, the second half I thought we were a wee bit sticky and it was a bit end to end. They were going forward and then towards the end I thought we had a lot of chances again but couldn’t put the ball in the net.
“Ryan Thomson’s strength is to get in the box and on the end of things and he did that today, he got a goal but was unfortunate not to get two or three more. He times his runs well and is a good finisher so it is pleasing today that he got a goal and he showed his fitness to get up and down the pitch.
“I thought that Andy Stirling and Ryan Williamson caused a lot of problems in the first half, so in the second half County had to change the way they played. They caused them a big problem down that side with Andy drifting in the pitch and Ryan overlapping, it was the same with Dundee last week. They were very positive together and I’m delighted with their performance.
“We could have had a goals in the second half, with Thomson’s header and a shot and James had a wee chance and Stirling had an opportunity. Towards the end of the second half we had a few opportunities but overall I am very pleased with the game.
Asked if some of them had maybe done enough to be considered for Saturday’s game v Stirling:-
“I think so, it’s the same team that played against Dundee last week and it has been two good performances and a lot of goals from the same 11 players, so they have given the Manager, Neil and myself a good problem. The first team are not doing so well at the moment so its an opportunity for them to go in but its up to them to do their stuff if they get in the first team to keep their place and I’ve no doubt that some of them will do it.
"It's hard for us as training has been really good recently, yesterday and today has been great and the spirits are back up again, but they need to take what they do in training into games. We had a chat yesterday and told them what we are expecting, so hopefully things change a wee bit and we can pick up the points on Saturday."
