This game started badly for the Pars conceding a second minute goal to Jerome Varielle when Colin Miller was left in the Frenchman’s slipstream. In the match programme Bert Paton had said that it was time to make some changes but this kind of goal gifting was not in the plans.

The Pars were without the suspended Dave Barnett, Ivo Den Bieman coming in to replace him and Raymond Sharp being in the squad for the first time since the opening match of the season.
Craig Robertson started the game in the centre of the defence as Dunfermline lined up 5-4-1; Andy Smith being given the task of trying to find something out of nothing.
