Sammy the Tammy was joined by fellow bears, Yogi and Boo Boo as Dunfermline
struggled to kill off the bottom team in the league. Yogi, the Clydebank side
that almost stole part of the picnic basket and Boo Boo, the intolerant home
fans who failed to appreciate that Clydebank came to defend and hope for a break
the very same way that their Pars do when they go to Ibrox.

The match provided yet another opportunity for caretaker manager Jimmy Nicholl to demonstrate his talents despite the fact that that “good friend” of the club, BBC Sportsound’s Chic Young, exclusively revealing at 1. 30pm that there were now only two people still in the running for the manager’s post and they were Bobby Gould and Mike Walker.

The St Mirren victory on Friday evening had put them 11 points ahead and defeat at the hands of Livingston coupled with the probable wins for Raith at Ayr and Falkirk at Clydebank would have meant that the Pars could end the day in 5th spot if they were not careful. Over the previous 24 hours thousands of football fans had sung about autumn leaves but for Dunfermline it was important that they did not produce a “fall” of their own.
