Manager Allan Johnston was pleased with his team’s second half performance but thought the first half was on the ‘scrappy’ side. He told the post match media:-
“They probably had territorial advantage winning a lot of corners and were a threat from setpieces. Obviously Robbo had a great Save first half as well.
“We had our chances as well. Aidan Keena has got to score when the cross came in from Higgy. We looked dangerous from setpieces but probably first half they just edged it slightly. There wasn’t much in it between the two teams.
“Second half I thought we played well, we were much more of a threat, we created chances and we probably should have been competition no away with the three points.
“Because we don’t take our chances we end up riding our luck at the very last bit when they got a chance.”
That chance fell to top scorer Lawrence Shankland who uncharacteristically missed the target. The Pars success was due to minimising the threat posed by the Ayr top goalscorer, the manager claimed:-
“We kept him really quiet for the whole game. The defenders did really well because he is playing with a lot of confidence at the moment. He is a real goal threat but we defended well for a large period.
“I thought Danny (Devine) and Ashy (Lee Ashcroft) handed them well and obviously James Vincent just in front of them handled Moffat. It was a really good defensive performance.
“Going forward in the second half we were much better than the first half. We are a bit frustrated not getting a win.”
The referee, Steven McLean, had to deal with a couple of controversial incidents in three hectic minutes late in the game, he commented firstly on Steven Bell’s last man foul on Aidan Keena:-
“He has clearly pulled him back. If the pass had been a little bit better then he would probably have been off, it would have been a red card because he is last man.
“The challenge of Moore (on James Craigen) I would need to see again but it looked a little bit reckless at the time. Obviously the referee did not deem it a red card.”
Three games without a goal and the manager agreed that was not good enough:-
“We are not scoring enough goals. That has definitely been the problem, we are trying all sorts to try and rectify it. We are looking to see if we can bring in somebody who could help us.
“Time will tell because it has to be somebody who is better than what we have.”
