Kyle playing his part

Sunday, 8th Jan 2023

KM:- “That’s actually my eighth assist this season and I’m happy with that.

A win for FC Edinburgh on Saturday would have seen Alan Maybury’s team leapfrog Dunfermline into top of the league but the Fifers showed a determination to avoid being knocked off the pole position that they have held since mid October.

The Pars sixteen shots yielded just one goal but nevertheless it was a comfortable win in a game that they controlled for large periods. Apart from an Aaron Comrie clearance off the line in the first half and a magnificent save from Deniz Mehmet near the end, Dunfermline rarely looked troubled.

Every player played their part but it was Kyle Macdonald who created the vital opening and ultimate winner. He agreed that it was a really pleasing victory but with all the chances the team had the game could have been won by more.

“In the first half we were feeling like we were totally on top and we could maybe take a few goals off them but when you are not taking these chances, you know that they are going to come out a lot stronger in the second half and not give you as many chances as they did in the first half. They did that and put us under a lot of pressure but we dealt with that as we have for most of the season, we have defended really well.

“We managed to absorb all the pressure they put on us and Deniz pulled off a great save at the end. That’s what it is all about - it is a team game. Obviously I helped with the goal and Deniz is helping by keeping the ball out.

“At the end of the day it doesn’t matter, it was a good performance and it is the three points is all that counts” claimed Kyle who described his part in the 20th minute goal:-

“I knocked it past the first guy and then managed to get by the second. He caught me a wee bit but I had the momentum to go past him. It was just about picking the right pass out, I managed to do that and Craig Wighton finished it off. It was a good goal and I’m happy to be a part of it.

The manager praised Deniz Mehmet for getting the ball out so quickly to Kyle after taking a Ryan Shanley cross and Kyle added:-

“When we are playing at home we have the ball boys that allow us to play quickly. We managed to do that for that goal there and caught them off guard.

“That’s actually my eighth assist this season and I’m happy with that. Probably one of my strengths is putting the ball into the box and into a place to go and attack. If I can add more of that to my game then all the better.”

The result maintained a four point lead over Edinburgh with two games in hand due to postponed fixtures. The only disappointment from the Meadowbank match for Kyle was not being able to get on the scoresheet himself to add to his two goal tally for Dunfermline:-

“I’m not used to getting the finishes away but when the performance is good and the team is winning that is alright. It is when the chance comes to win the game - that’s when I want to be taking it. If they come in games that we are winning it’s alright but hopefully when it comes in an important game, I will take it.

“There is no better feeling in football than scoring a goal. At Arbroath a couple of weeks ago I scored. That was some feeling so I want to get as much of that as I can. You see other players scoring and that’s great for the team but I want to score as well.”

Kyle has made 11 starts and ten appearances off the bench in the 26 matches played this season but completed ninety minutes just five times. The versatile player who will be 23 years of age this Wednesday would love more regular starts and minutes on the park:-

“That is why I’m here and that’s what I want to do. When I’m not playing I’m disappointed. It is hard to hide your disappointment especially when you feel that you can be a benefit to the team like I did on Saturday. Hopefully I can put in more performances like that and the manager can’t take me out the team.”
