Manager Post East Fife

Saturday, 4th Jul 2015

Allan Johnston maintains that at this stage in the season it is all about fitness but a 3-0 win is always nice to get.

Speaking exclusively to the website the Pars manager said:-

"It is always good to score goals. Obviously there were occasions when we could have passed the ball a wee bit better but that will come. There is a lot to work on but there was a lot of positives there as well. A lot of good performances and always good to get goals as well.

"I thought the new signings fitted in very well; I thought Ben (Richards-Everton) was outstanding, Callum (Fordyce) and Jason Talbot did really well, Michael Paton did well but there were a lot of good performances not just the new signings.

"Some of the boys who had been here before did fantastically well too. Even when you look at the boys who came on in the second half they added a bit and I was delighted with them."

The Manager admitted that he was still learning about the players who remained from last season:-

"It is still early doors, that's our first game but to get three goals and in the manner in which they did. They were really good finishes especially for the first goal and the third goal but also with the counter attack for the second."

The squad included several trialists - former Ayr United keeper David Hutton started and Joe Cardle, Ross Caldwell and Scott Ferris all came on for the final half hour.

"Obviously we are interested in a few of the boys who were playing. It is still early, a lot of them will be playing on Monday as well (v Berwick Rangers at Shielfield Park ok 7:45) or on Wednesday ( closed doors v Partick Thistle). The boys who came on in the second half and a few of the young lads will be playing on Monday.

"Faiss was excellent, he gave us a real threat and a real freshness. There were a lot of positives.

"Goalkeeper is a position we need to fill and we need to bring in somebody as quickly as possible. We are talking to other people as well so we see how it goes. David never really had much to do today but he is an experienced goalie so it is good for a young defence to have that wee bit experience behind them"
