Ben gives oppo double barrel

Saturday, 31st Oct 2015

"If I can contribute goals to the team I will, it is something that I need to add to my game. We have worked in training on putting me in areas at setpieces and crosses.

Ben Richards-Everton feels that the defence has played its role in taking Dunfermline to the top of League One. The impressive start to the season scoring four, five, six and then seven goals was only disappointing in as much as a goal was conceded in every match. Now after five shuts in seven games the tall English defender feels that all the work in training has paid dividends.

"The boys are doing well defensively we have really tightened up and there have been injuries that meant new boys have come in, boys playing in positions that they don't normally play in. Lewis (Martin) is a natural centre back but he looks like a natural full back and he is playing really well.

"I feel that we are getting better defensively. At the start of the season as a back four we gelled very quick together considering none of us had played with each other. Obviously the injuries to Ryan Williamson and Callum Fordyce meant boys have come in and we have finally gelled in the last couple of games."

Ben is looking forward to the trip to Central Park for what will be the third match this season against local rivals, Cowdenbeath. For him it will be virgin ground.

"We will go into the game like any other game, it makes no difference whoever we play - we will just focus on ourselves. As long as we are on our game we can give any team a good game. Hopefully we can get three points on Saturday."

Being the only full time team in the division is an advantage that Ben thinks come to Dunfermline's advantage in the final ten minutes of matches:-

"Every time teams play against us like it is a cup final, every team that comes here wants to beat Dunfermline. We are probably a bit fitter that other teams towards the end of games."

Ben scored his first senior goal at Stranraer on his 24th birthday live on BBC Alba:-

"My mum was watching at home as well with a couple of her friends, so I had a few nice messages. If I can contribute goals to the team I will, it is something that I need to add to my game. We have worked in training on putting me in areas at setpieces and crosses. It has finally paid off but I don't know what I was doing up there to be fair.

"It must have been fate because when Shaun has got the ball usually I am running back but I just stayed in there and he put a great ball in that found me!"
