An ever present during Dunfermline’s League One title winning season in 2022-2023, goalkeeper Deniz Mehmet set a new club record with a total of 24 shut outs.
Deniz joined Dunfermline in June 2021, manager Peter Grant`s second signing. He only made eight appearances in his first season but in the next under James McPake he had exceeded that by the end of August.
Born in London, Deniz played for youth teams at Arsenal, Charlton Athletic, and Manchester United, before he joined the youth academy at West Ham United in 2008.
Deniz made 23 appearances for Turkey`s youth international sides, playing from U16 level up to U19 before he moved to Turkey to sign for Kayserispor, where he made his professional debut. He remained there for four seasons until January 2016, when he signed for Falkirk.
In March 2017, he arrived at Port Vale on a short term contract until the end of the 2016-17 season, becoming the first choice keeper for the English League One side. In July 2017 Deniz joined Dundee United on a one year deal.
Deniz was played mainly in Irn Bru Cup matches and had to wait until the turn of the year to get his chance as the regular first team keeper and he finished 2017-18 as United`s number one – until a freak injury sustained during the Premiership Playoff quarter final against Dunfermline when a goal celebration put an end to his season.
On May 21, 2018, Deniz signed a contract extension until the end of January 2019 but in March 2019 he had a spell at Queen of the South before returning to Dundee United four months later to compete with Benji Siegrist for the goalkeeper`s jersey in the 2019/20 season.
Mehmet made four league and eight cup appearances during the 2020-2021 season including playing in the Scottish Cup semi final defeat to Hibernian.
As at 3105/23: 52 Dunfermline appearances, all starts
