Reserve Cup Final

Livingston Reserves v Dunfermline Athletic Reserves will take place at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Tuesday 23 April, kick-off 7.00pm.

Manager James McPake is pleased that the club has made it to the Reserve Cup Final for the second season running but claimed that the experience was the most important element:-

“The young boys who played in that last year will remember how hard it was going down there and playing against a first team. There is a good chance that it could be the same this year but with the size of our squad it could be anything in any reserve game if everyone stays healthy which we hope they do. I think for the football club it is important.

“Giving young players that exposure to games with a different pressure where you are playing for a trophy or to get into a final. It doesn’t matter what level that excites you and gets the younger ones going in terms of wanting to go out and do that.

“They will feels it after last season. It was just the Reserve Cup but when you see Kilmarnock on the pitch enjoying it, they will be wanting to get a bit of that as well. We will look forward to it, it will be a day for the younger ones and the coaches that take the game. I think it is important for the academy, as much as it is not about winning games, there still has got to be an emphasis on winning.

“Yes we want to produce our own players but to produce players you need to get them used to winning games. You need to get them used to playing in certain situations, the Reserve Cup gives us that and gives us that chance as I said, to expose them to pressures that they might not get at under 18 level.”
