AND AT THE SAME TIME BENEFIT THE YOUTH ACADEMY
This is a chance to win one of the original paintings of Dunfermline’s historic games in Europe painted by renowned football artist Paul Town. All profits go to the Dunfermline Athletic Youth Academy. Already £2,000 has been given to the Club for this cause. More will follow with your help.
And what a game it was. One of Dunfermline’s greatest European victories against a top-ranked French side, Girondins de Bordeaux. First leg played at East End Park on 16 September 1969. 4-0 to the Pars. Goals from Bert Paton (2), Barry Mitchell and Pat Gardner. Return leg in France on 30 September 1969 was a 0-2 defeat in what the newspapers referred to as `The Battle of Bordeaux”.
Dunfermline progressed to meet Gwardia Warsaw in the next round of the European Inter-City Fairs Cup.
Eddie Martin who works with the Club and the Youth Academy promoting good mental health commented “This will be my third year working with the graduates of the academy. When I first started delivering mental health awareness sessions, the Under 20’s at that time included Matty Todd, Lewis McCann, Paul Allan and Miller Fenton. Then the pandemic came along and put things on pause for a while. Luckily, I started working again with the new graduates, Jake Rennie, Michael Beagley, Sam Young, Taylor Sutherland and Andrew Tod. To these have been added Jake Sutherland, Ewan McLeod and Liam Hoggan. As you can see there is a wealth of talent coming through the academy. The U18s are looking very strong this year and I am confident that yet more players will progress though the ranks to join the senior squad. To help with the costs, fundraising initiatives such as this are are essential.”
