DUNFERMLINE 4 EAST STIRLINGSHIRE 2

MATCH PICTURES
This match was played on a cold and windy Sunday afternoon on a tricky playing surface at Dalgety Bay. The Pars went ahead in fourth minute when Gary O`HARA`s back pass ended up in this own net.  Keeper Iain Ure came for the ball but Steven Leslie threatened to rush in a clip the ball past him. Leslie never got a touch but did enough to put off the keeper to send the home side into a welcome early lead.

There was a further set back for East Stirling whose coach was serving the second of his two match bans in 11 minutes.  A Stefan Scougall corner from the left was only defended as far as Ryan Thomson 15 yards out, his netbound shot was deflected off an arm and a penalty was awarded.  Captain Harry McGREGOR stepped up and stroked the ball left footed into the Shire net.

Thomson received a good pass from Rees Smith to send another shot narrowly wide while at the other end Steven Page sent the opposition`s best chance so far over the bar. On 20 minutes a swift flowing move from Smith to Scougall ended up with a squared ball to Leslie but the striker was off target. Next minute however Dunfermline were three up.

A McGregor free kick just 10 yards into the East Stirling half was assisted by the easterly wind .  In the centre of the Shire box Stewart Thomson, Ryan Thomson and Stefan Scougall all challenged for the ball and it was SCOUGALL who swept the ball into the net.

The game was virtuallly over as a contest when Lewis Turner picked out Conner SCHIVONE on the edge of the box and the striker shot under Ure to make it 4-0.  The blue shirted stopper did much better to tip a Ryan Thomson 30 yarder away for a corner and then the visitors deserved a goal when Page delivered a fine ball from the right that Jordan Brown dispatched narrowly wide left.

East Stirling got a goal back in 36 minutes when a free kick from the right touchline was well met by TRIALIST Aaron Whitehead.  Before the break Schivone had a good effort deflected for a corner and Smith tried a shot from 30 yards that Ure had to touch over his bar.

Dean Elder created the first chance of the second half but despite getting two bites at it Leslie failed to beat the keeper.  In 59 minutes Craig Bald pulled off a fine save at his near post after Page had played a good ball through for Lewis Elder to blast on target.

Scougall fought to regain possession in 63 minutes giving him an opportunity to test Ure but his sights were too high. Next the keeper saved after a Leslie cross was met by Schivone.  Ure only just kept it out grabbing the ball behind him with one hand.  Both sides committed substitutes but it was East Stirling who got the boost.

Paul Sweeney`s free kick from the right found ELDER on the edge of the box and he launched a wicked dipping shot that gave Bald little chance. Ryan Thomson hit the crossbar for the Pars and Scougall sent another good effort wide but that apart the final whistle was a welcome sound for the frozen spectators.
