Andy Geggan returns to Dumbarton on Saturday for the first time since leaving the club at the end of the 2010-11 season. Speaking exclusively to the website he said that his five years at Dumbarton were really good. After 164 appearances for the Sons his departure was a bit surprising and he confesses that he wouldn't mind getting on the scoresheet against his old club:-
"I went there when I was 18 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Gerry McCabe was the manager who took me there but circumstances meant that he left before I did. We had a season and a half together and he played me at right back.
"When Jim Chapman came in he played me at centre midfield; I was not too bothered where I played as long as I got a game. It all ended a bit abruptly at Dumbarton though. I knew Ayr were after me because Brian Reid phoned me but when it came to the end of May the offer of a contract was taken off the table by Dumbarton. I read on their website that I had knocked back the offer. That was a bit harsh after I had been there for five years, so I do not know how their fans will react to that."
Andy Geggan (grounded) cannot prevent a Dunfermline goal
Having started the season at Dunfermline playing at right back the 25 year old is happier now that Jordan McMillan and Stephen Jordan have established themselves at full back and he is left competing for the midfield roles. He has grasped the opportunity at Airdrie and against Raith and especially enjoyed the local derby against the Rovers:-
"It was a right good game and I like going into all the challenges. I didn't expect the heat; I knew it was a rival game but when I saw the crowd I realise 'wow, this is a big game for them'. Josh's early hard tackle kicked it all off. Their captain Allan Walker was screaming for wee Josh to get sent off and it went on from there. Jason Thomson wasn't really holding back either but it was a good game that I really enjoyed."
Andy feels he has adjusted well to full time football after leaving his job at an alarm company. He does not doubt that the move has been the right one and hopes that his two year contract can lead to even bigger things:-
"We do not need to fear anybody in this league. Partick Thistle have been together as a team for a wee while but since the game when we played them we have begun to gel a bit better. Next time we play Partick Thistle it will be a right good test and if we can win promotion this season it will be some achievement by boys who did not know each other."
