The Pars fans who were on top of the world
Monday, 15th Dec 2014Colin Marr Memorial Trust
Pars fan Allen Marr and his partner Linda Henriksen are keen hillwalkers and this year they decided to undertake the ultimate which was a trek to Everest base camp.
Allen's son Colin, who was also a Pars fan, died in July 2007 aged 23. To preserve his memory Colin's family set up the Colin Marr Memorial Trust with the aim of supporting children's charities and sponsoring young people in sporting activities (e.g. the trust last year purchased training kit for the Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts youngsters).
The Trust has also sponsored young Pars players, in recent years Paul Willis and currently Lewis Spence. You may know that player sponsors receive their player's shirt at the end of the season and as Allen now has a fair collection he and Linda decided to take some with them to help spread the word about the Pars and maybe recruit some new fans.
So now Paul and Lewis will be pleased to know that there are two Nepalese guides, Ajay Tamang and Hemant Temang, proudly wearing their Pars shirts and we now have two new fans in Nepal.
Allen and Linda witnessed extreme poverty on their travels and have already made donations from the Colin Marr Memorial Trust to the Classrooms in the Clouds and Supporting Sherpa Children charities in Nepal.
The Trust now aims to raise more funds for education of children in Nepal, one of the poorest countries in the world.
