Steven McDougall Post Ross County

Saturday, 16th Oct 2010

"Steven Bell put a great ball through to me all I had to do was to take a touch and finish.

After coming up with a last minute winner against Ross County, Steven McDougall played down suggestions that he was Dunfermline's hero :-

"I was only on for twenty minutes and the rest of the boys played well for the full game but it was good to get the late goal and a win rather than a draw. We will take that.

"It was a good open game; it was end to end and entertaining but as long as we pick up the points we are happy. That's only a quarter of the season gone, there's ages to go. We can only take it one game at a time, try and pick up as many three points as we can and see where that takes us.

"Obviously as a striker coming on. I was hopeful that I might score and with the attacking players we have we always create chances. Thankfully one came my way and I managed to score.

"Before I went on I was hoping that we'd score. In the end we did so we'll take the three points."

This was the kind of game where last season two points might have been dropped but four wins out of four in this league campaign can't be bad. The 24 year old striker didn't know why the Pars luck had changed:-

"I am not sure if there is anything different. We try right up to the last minute, we work hard for the full game and sometimes that pays off. It did today. Everybody wants to be at the top of the table but it doesn't really matter just now its where we want to be at the end of the season."

The super sub realised that time was running out for him and his team mates:-

"When I was getting back up the park, I asked the referee how long there was to go and he said three minutes. I scored a couple of minutes after that, I knew it was late but it was the best time to score. Steven Bell put a great ball through to me all I had to do was to take a touch and finish. I had another chance after that but I just opened up too much trying to put it in the opposite corner. I misjudged it and so I am just glad that it wasn't two each when I missed it."

In seven of the nine league games this season Steven has come on as a substitute and before the Ross County game his two goals this season so far had come after coming off the bench as well (against Arbroath and Clyde in the Co-operative Cup). At Firhill three weeks ago Steven came on and had an immediate impact in setting up Andy Kirk for the second goal, so was Steven concerned that the manager might reserve him as the trump card to come on if things were going wrong?

"I am quite happy as long as we get the three points, obviously I'd like to start every game and win but it is a team game so you have to bide your time. If you are coming off the bench and scoring goals, the manager might think it's worth a start. I won't be chapping doors or anything asking for games."
