Ross Forbes marks his Dunfermline debut with a goal after early spot kick miss

Ross Forbes

Ross Forbes Dunfermline debut didn't quite get off to the successful start he might have hoped for. When he tried to lift the ball into the East Fife box the ball hit Gary Naysmith on the hand and referee David Somers awarded a penalty. Although not the designated penalty taker, the new signing placed the ball and sent the fourth minute spot kick to the keeper's left but former Pars keeper Greg Paterson pulled off a great save and Forbes was left distraught.

It took forty more minutes for Forbes to beat Paterson and with his new club going on to win 3-1 he was in good form when he spoke to the media after the game:-

"I was pleased to get a goal and win on my debut. The opportunity was there and I just grabbed the ball. Obviously it got saved by the goalkeeper but that's just one of those things.

"We had a lot of chances before we scored. The wind was a big factor in the game, there were a lot of corners but once the goal went in it set us up to get the next two."

The second and third goals were scored after the break when the Pars were playing into the elements:-

"Playing into the wind was maybe a bit easier because in the first half everything you hit forward was just going away from you. These are just the factors you need to deal with and I thought the boys did well.

"It felt very comfortable fitting into the Dunfermline team, there are a lot of good players here. It makes it easier when you are coming into a good team. They are playing well and have been picking up a few wins. All the young boys have got confidence as well."

Ross was cup tied with Partick Thistle in this season's Scottish Cup so he will not be eligible for Friday night's match against Rangers.
