Shaun Byrne through thick and thin

Wednesday, 4th May 2016

"I have been through the worst times that the club has had and obviously Saturday was one of the best

Shaun Byrne has been at Dunfermline from the age of 14, he has made 115 appearances for the club so to win a league championship with the club was a very proud moment for the lad from Windygates. He told the website:-

"I am delighted, it has been a memorable season for all the boys and myself. I have been through a lot at Dunfermline.

"I have always believed that the club will get back to where it belongs and this is just a small part of it. Hopefully it is going to happen soon."

Shaun was introduced as a sub late in the second half of the final league match against Peterhead on Saturday but he was just glad to get on and see the season out.

"It was great to play a part in the last game of the season and a bit emotional as well. I don't know what happens next, I have not been offered anything yet.

"I have enjoyed it here and I love the club. I appreciate everything that the fans have done for me over the last four or five years in the first team but it might be time to move on.

"I have been through the worst times that the club has had and obviously Saturday was one of the best days that I have had as well. If it is time to move on I just have to look for a new chapter.

"I need regular football, if you are happy sitting on a bench on a Saturday, you shouldn't be playing football to be honest. I have been itching to play all season. I played a lot of games up until Christmas time but Josh and Geggs were the midfield."

Shaun started 19 matches this season but only two after Christmas. It was no surprise that he concluded:-

"I want to play a lot more games than I have done lately, it has been disappointing over the last couple of months. It was emotional thinking it might be the last time that I was going to play for Dunfermline but I am delighted that we won the league and if I am going to go I will be going on a high."
