Scott banks on another win over Rovers

Monday, 29th Mar 2021

“We are all fighting for the playoffs and we just have to beat Raith. It is a must win game, there is no hiding that.

Dunfermline’s on loan midfielder Scott Banks has claimed that the local derby against Raith Rovers as the team’s biggest game of the season. The defeat in Dundee on Saturday allowed James McPake’s side to join the Rovers on 33 points leaving Dunfermline three points behind in fourth place, level on points with both Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Queen of the South.

To lose from two goals up was another lost opportunity and Scott lamented the slip ups that have prevented Dunfermline establishing a challenge to the league leaders:-

“Hearts have had some interesting results in the last few weeks and we have all been saying if it wasn’t for the chances we let slip away, we could be right up there pushing them. Unfortunately that is not the case.

“We are all fighting for the playoffs and we just have to beat Raith. It is a must win game, there is no hiding that. People know how much pressure that we are under now and that is something that he have to dig out and really perform on Tuesday night.”

Such is the competition in the Scottish Championship it felt like a must-win when Dunfermline faced Raith Rovers at East End at the beginning of last month. This one at Stark’s Park is no different and Scott recalled that home meeting, one in which he made his first Pars start:-

“It was a really good performance from the team, a comfortable win in the end. Obviously if we can reciprocate that at Raith it would be a great result and one that we need massively.

“We hope the goals come like they did on Saturday night early on and we are able to be strong throughout and not have another 15 to 20 minute spell when we looked ropey. Hopefully that will get us the win.”

Although not enough to take home any league points Scott felt that the two goals on Saturday would boost the strikers’ confidence:-

“It was great and I am delighted for Kev (O’Hara) and Wighton to find the net again, that is something that we need them to do for the team. Then it is the job of players like me and Dom Thomas to provide for them. If they can keep scoring and keep on form that is exactly what we need in the run up to the playoffs.

“We need everyone firing on all cylinders and hopefully we can go and win promotion at the end of it. We need to focus on these games coming up and make sure that we are in that spot.”
