SPFL Awards for October
Tuesday, 10th Nov 2020SPFL Championship Manager of the Month and Player of the Month for October both come to Dunfermline
Congratulations to Stevie Crawford and Euan Murray who have been named SPFL Championship Manager and Player of the Month for October. This is a proud double for the club which went through the month with a 100% record with six wins from three Betfred Cup and three SPFL league games.
Euan Murray has captained Dunfermline through these six wins and played every minute of every game. In addition he has scored 5 of Dunfermline’s 16 goals in those six matches.
Euan joined Dunfermline in June 2019 signing from Raith Rovers on a two year contract. During his two seasons at Stark’s Park Euan scored nine goals in 92 appearances.
The defender, who started his career in the Motherwell Academy has formed a partnership this season in central defence with Paul Watson. They have also created a great danger at setpieces and corners with Euan benefiting from deliveries from Dom Thomas who has been credited for all five assists for Euan’s goals.
This is the second time that Euan Murray has won an SPFL award - he was in their League One Team of the Year in 2018-2019 when he was with Raith Rovers. He becomes the twelfth Pars recipient of a national Player of the Month Award
Stevie has won the Manager of the Month award once before in February 2019 just one month after taking over from Allan Johnston. The wins in October came over Dumbarton, Falkirk, Kilmarnock, Inverness Caley Thistle, Alloa Athletic and Queen of the South. Stevie also won one of this type of award as a player - in 2000 he won the PFA First Division Player of the Year Award.
This is the 15th time a Dunfermline manager has won the Manager of the Month Award. Leading the list is Jim McIntyre with five (all SFL First Division Manager of the Month), followed by Allan Johnston with three (two League One and one Championship manager of the month). Jimmy Calderwood twice won SPL Manager of the Month, and Stephen Kenny won the same award once. Finally, Jim Jefferies won twice (once as SFL First Division and secondly as SPFL League One Manager of the Month).
