Ryan Thomson Post Morton

Sunday, 7th Nov 2010

"If I had scored that one the boys would have been caning me in the dressing room.

Ryan Thomson came off the bench on Saturday to make his league debut for Dunfermline. The 19 year old spoke to the website and first off he wanted to pay tribute to the man he replaced - Steven Bell:-

"I was pleased to get on but disappointed with the result and because you don't like to see anybody injured. I hope Belly is alright, I think it's a bad one but hopefully he recovers quick."

Gaffer Jim McIntyre praised Ryan's efforts including a blistering shot early into the second half that was as close as Dunfermline came to scoring. The 25 yard effort rattled the crossbar but came back out and since joining Dunfermline at U15 level he has sent a few goals in spectacular fashion.

"If I had scored that one the boys would have been caning me in the dressing room. When I have scored (in the U19s) they have been decent goals.

"We lost a silly goal but things like that happen. We just need to put the mistakes to the back and hopefully we will get the win."

Like his manager, Ryan doubted the Morton penalty award, "from where I was it looked soft but refs make mistakes as much as we do."

Ryan scored once while on loan to Albion Rovers between February and May this year but Cappielow was his first taste of First Division football. Having been on the subs bench the previous week at East End Park, Ryan had been keen to make his debut:-

"I was dying to get on to see how it is and show my promise. It easier to start games because then you can feel your way into a game instead of coming on when everybody has settled down already. You just need to adapt as quick as you can. It found it a lot faster and I hope to get up to speed with a few more chances in the coming weeks."

He was no stranger to the first team squad either:-

"I travel in with Burkie, Ozzie, Dougal and Nicky Phinn. I am always with them and I have settled in well now with the first team boys. Last week it was good to see Kyle Allison make his debut and its good seeing young people getting their chance, hopefully it can continue. I hope I have done enough to let the manager know I could handle next week's derby."
