Ryan's private thoughts on saving

"We need to become a bit more dog

RYAN SCULLY

"We played not too badly but we lost four cheap, cheap goals and that was poor."  The keeper who will be 21 later this month is delighted with the support offered by the Pars goalkeeping coach, Brian Potter. Ryan continued:-

"He is very similar to my previous coach at Partick Thistle, same exercises and hard work."  The goalkeeping coaching is primarily short sharp routines Ryan described it:-

"Reaction stuff, decision making and crossing. Kicking and distribution that is goalie specific things."

Ryan's training partner is Ryan Goodfellow who has come up through the Pars youth system. The. 20 year old understudy has yet to come off the bench during a game. Goodfellow is too old to feature in the SFA Youth Cup this season but his replacement Cammy Gill also trains with the two Ryan's.

Scully says the keepers are a good unit working hard for each other:-

"The lads have great work ethics and training has always good high standards. They give 100 per cent, that pushes me and helps me as well."

The Pars have lost 15 goals in their eight league games but after Ranges are the only other team in the league of ten with a positive goal difference. He continued:-

"We have lost cheap goals and we need to make sure that we are not going to concede. Maybe it will not be the prettiest at times because I think that is what has cost us goals trying to play it from the back. There are times when it just needs to go, especially in the first few minutes of the game. We cannot always rely on the boys to come back and score two or three goals after that so we need to become a bit more dogged at the back."

The first team keeper offered some advice on the early goals that the team has lost in recent games:-

"We need a bit more concentration at the start. We are a young team but we cannot keep using that as an excuse, we need to start learning from it. Hopefully we can sort that out in the next few games."

Every player would like to get back on the pitch as soon as possible to make amends for the heavy defeat by Forfar but due to Rangers international call ups Dunfermline are left without a match on Saturday? Ryan relayed the feelings:-

"Following last week's bad result you really want to bounce back straight away and get the game over. We have time to put hard work in this week and rest up as well."

Match day routine usually sees goalkeepers go out to warm up and the keeper who is going to start up is always the first to return to the dressing room. Ryan explained

"I just get my shin guards on, cycling shorts and goalkeeping strip on. It is just a wee superstition that I have getting ready. I want to be the first to be ready and settled. Most goalkeepers do that but I don't know why it is. It is just something that I have been taught. We usually go out first before everyone else but we work harder than everyone else" he jested.

The on loan keeper still keeps a close eye on Partick results and has watched a few of their matches.

"They have been really unlucky because they have been playing good football. It is a wee bit similar to us, playing well but not taking their chances and conceding goals at the other end."  He added:-
