Ready to take off

Friday, 12th Sep 2014

After featuring in five games this season so far, Ryan Williamson feels that he can contribute much to the Pars promotion push this season,

Speaking exclusively to this website Ryan said:-

"I was on the bench for two of three games but I got my opportunities against Falkirk and Airdrie. I thought I performed very well when I came on and then started against Stranraer and set up a goal. Hopefully I can kick on from here and try and keep my place on the team."

The 18 year old had several of his characteristic runs at the Stranraer defence, he added "I just ran as far as I could with the ball and tried to make it as difficult for Stranraer as I could. For the goal I just picked it up inside my own half and just ran. Thankfully Moffat was there when I cut back to finish it."

So has Ryan a plan when he sets off on one of these runs?

"Most times it happens too quick. I just take off but it is vital to have a good end delivery. It is important that I get my head up and look for a team mate."

Ryan started against St Mirren in the League Cup and he added how that had felt before turning his attentions to the next match:-

"Playing against SPL opposition was a good experience but this Saturday I expect Scott Booth's Stenhousemuir team to be very well organised,

"When they came to East End last time they were compact and made it very difficult for us to break them down. They left with a very good point.

"I imagine Alan Lithgow (from Ayr United) will be a good signing for them at the back. Obviously Grehan is a handful up front so we will need to look out for him in particular. I am looking forward to the game and hopefully there will be a good turnout and everybody will get behind us. Three points are key."

While fellow defender Lewis Martin was part of the squad, Ryan was only on standby for the Scotland under 19s:-

"I got an email saying that I was in the Professional squad but to find out I was one of eight players cut was disappointing. I think I had been performing well enough and I did not view the boys ahead of me as better. It is just one of those things. Hopefully I will get an opportunity and be recognised eventually."

Casting that into the background Ryan is very clear what his aim should be for this season:-

"To try and keep my place in the team by playing just as well as I can. I will keep working on my weaknesses and try and play as many games as I can. If that happens my experience will build and build."
