Dunfermline Athletic

Preference for Old Fashioned bounce up

Friday, 4th Sep 2009

Manager's statement as given in The Game - Dunfermline Athletic's matchday programme.

The Dugout v Hibs

The Manager has asked us to make clear to fans how he proposes to change the way in which Dunfermline players will react to injuries among opposition players in the future.

"I attended a very useful meeting with managers and referees last month when a number of matters were discussed.  The idea of the meeting was to help to forge a better relationship between officials and managers, and to look at things like the laws of the game and how they should be interpreted.

"As a result of that meeting, I have now stated that when opposition teams visit, I intend to speak to the referee and the visiting manager before the game.  My intention is to let them know that I would want both teams to agree that when a player is injured that the matter should be left to the referee as to when to stop the game.  Our players won't be putting the ball out of play for a player to receive treatment, nor will they be giving the ball back if the opposition have played the ball out for a throw-in.  In my view that wastes as much time as anything, so I'm a believer in the old-fashioned 'bounce up'."

"The reason I am stating this here is that I think it is better to be up front about it, but also so that fans on both sides know what is happening and don't get the wrong ideas."

It is accepted that the manager of opponents could have different viewpoints but as long as Jim McIntyre tells the Referee and his opponents what the Dunfermline team's intentions are then what they do is up to them.
