Paul Burns celebrates first Dunfermline goal

Paul Burns scored a goal for Queen of the South at Hampden in the 2008 Scottish Cup Semi Final win over Aberdeen but he claims that his first SPL goal is up there with it. He said:-

"It was great to get off the mark but more important to get the three points. We knew that it wasn't going to be easy coming here after last weekend; they had a point to prove. We worked hard and managed to get the break, fortunately it went in.

Paul's match winning goal came just five minutes from full time at that stage where it was hard for Dundee United to come back:-

"They were a little deflated and we got a bit of a buzz from the goal. We managed to see it out and it is always nice to get the three points."

His goal gave Dunfermline their second away SPL win in as many weeks, succeeding to kick on from their victory at St Johnstone the previous weekend. The win at Tannadice took his team into third place in the SPL but the midfielder raised caution over too great an expectation:-

"We are just trying to build and keep it going. We have a good team spirit in the dressing room and it is just about taking things in and trying to improve every week. There is a long season ahead and we are not going to get ahead of ourselves; it will be a long season with plenty of hard games to come. We will take each game as it comes and see how it goes; obviously approach them in the right manner and we can only hope to get some points out of each game."

Nevertheless eight points from the opening four SPL games and no defeats is a great start for a side newly promoted from the First Division:-

"Everybody tips you to go back down so to get a good start is very important. The Celtic game got delayed but we still had a competitive game down at Annan in the cup so it helped rather than playing a friendly. It keeps you going; every game that is competitive is better for you. It could have worked against us had we had a free weekend, so we have managed to keep things going and pick up points here and there."

After seven seasons in the First Division with Queens, the 27 year old is delighted to be playing SPL football:-

"I had always wanted to try the SPL; it was an ambition to step up a level. I am just thankful to the Manager and the Club that he has shown faith in me and he has given me a platform to go and show what I can do. If I just take in what he is saying and what the most experienced are passing on to me, I can improve each week."
