Michael Paton crosses the T on a new contract

Allan Johnston was very pleased to complete the signing of a new contract with Michael Paton. He told the website:-

"He has been a massive player for us this year. His crossing ability created a lot of chances for us and we are delighted to get him on board."

The 27 year old from Greenock has scored three goals in his 38 starts and three appearances off the bench this season. He scored at Tannadice in League Cup and at home against Brechin City and Stenhousemuir. There is no doubt however that many of those who have scored the other 98 Pars goals have been grateful to the supply from Paton. The manager continued:-

"A lot of Faissal's goals have come from Pate's deliveries. He is really good at that. Obviously he can still work at adding goals to his game, he has been a wee bit unlucky at times but hopefully he can do that next year."

Michael spoke to the website too and told how pleased that he was offered another contract:-

"Obviously it is a massive club and I have done well here. I like working under the manager so it was a no brainer to sign up again.

"Maybe goals are lacking from my game and that is something I can improve on. The feeling for me to set up a goal is just as good as scoring a goal. Next season is going to be a lot tougher but I want to get more goals. You can see Joe Cardle, Michael Moffat and Faiss getting goals but I did my fair share of setting them up."

The manager had Michael as a player at Queen of the South and Allan Johnston recognises his player's experience at playing in the second tier, adding:-

"He can definitely play at that level, he has the quality - you have seen that this year so hopefully he is the start of a lot of players getting on board for next season. It is not easy, with agents and whatever and it takes a bit of time."

Michael follows Sean Murdoch, Ryan Williamson, Lewis Martin, David Hopkirk and youth keeper Cammy Gill in signing up for next season and he spoke about the process:-

"You are looking after yourself, you are looking after your future but I think things are moving forward with the rest of the players. I have been working with the manager since promotion has been secured and we are happy to have struck terms.

"I thought I played a big part this season, I am happy to sign up again and I am looking forward to seeing how well we can do in the Championship.

"I had two good seasons there - we finished in the play offs twice. Jim McIntyre took over Allan Johnston's team when Allan left Queen of the South. Macca brought in his own players and started building a really good team there as well. We finished fourth both seasons.

"So I am looking forward to getting back into it and although we are still waiting to see the outcomes of play offs it will be a good exciting league - of course, we are going to be in it!"
