Pars sign Polish u21 goalkeeper on loan from Leicester City
Monday, 31st Jan 2022Jakub Stolarczyk on loan until the end of the season
Dunfermline Athletic are delighted to confirm the signing of Jakub Stolarczyk on loan until the end of the season. We would like to thank Jon Rudkin, Director of Football and Andrew Neville, Football Operations Director at Leicester City for their support and help in allowing the move to happen.
Jakub who turned 21 in December was born in Kielce in Poland and played at youth level with Piast Chęciny before joining Leicester City in July 2019. He has been capped for his country at U18, U19 and U21 levels.
Dunfermline manager John Hughes was extremely pleased with his transfer deadline day signing and he explained:-
“It is something that I have been looking at since I came to the club. Usually you have a goalie coach and four goalkeepers but that wasn’t the case when I came to the club. We are so grateful for the job that Owain Fôn Williams has done as goalie coach and keeping himself fit as our number one.
“We just feel that it’s a position that we need to have a look at and try and work it out. When Jakub came under the radar and we did our due diligence we couldn’t believe it. We were saying if this could come off and we could get this guy then we have really knocked it off. When the supporters see him, see his physique and the size of him - six foot four - Polish under 21 international.”
John said that Jakob comes highly recommended by Kasper Schmeichel whose own move to Scotland to play for Hughes at Falkirk in 2007 did him no harm.
“Also our contacts at Leicester told us ‘sign him in the next hour, we cannot believe it’. He has shown enthusiasm to come up to Scotland to play football, it is unbelievable. He has maturity in the way he conducts himself and a maturity in that he knows where his football career is going.
“We are delighted to give him the platform and the whole plan is - get in there, get that position, keep it and hopefully he is here for next season as well. We can give him that stage to go and showcase his talent and he is right up for the challenge and right up for the fight.
“When we are talking to him and he is telling you the managers of this club, about the history of the club, Jock Stein, Sir Alex Ferguson and the history of Scotland but most importantly a real focus on playing his part for Dunfermline. So we are absolutely delighted to get him, we know all his attributes because we have done so much work on him.
“I am delighted that Leicester City see us as the best place for him to go and play football. They have helped us out so much and we are just delighted that just before the transfer window closes we have added another one to the squad.”
The gaffer expanded on how he viewed having three goalkeepers chasing the goalkeeping position:-
“Fonners as the goalie coach, has kept himself as number one and Deniz Mehmet will be disappointed, but they must say ‘yep I’m up for the challenge’. They all talk about the goalies union but it is all about the club, not about any individual. We are under no illusions that we have to keep winning football matches and moving this club forward to keep it in the league.
“So competition for places, and I have said it from day one, if you want to sit back and rest on your laurels I am always looking to bring better players in to this football club. It is up to these three guys to push each other for the places, bring the best out of each other and if the club is benefiting from that then we are in a good place.”
