Keeper to make big dive in underwater safari.
Dunfermline Athletic goalkeeper Ryan Goodfellow is set to take diving to a whole new level when he visits Deep Sea World, Scotland's national aquarium, on Thursday 17th July 2014.

The Pars' keeper will take the plunge and dive in the aquarium's giant 4.5 million litre Underwater Safari display, surrounded by three-metre-long sand tiger sharks.

He will be accompanied on the dive by the club's physiotherapist Kenny Murray while boss Jim Jefferies will be looking on and offering support from the safety of the aquarium's underwater walkthrough tunnel. Keeper Ryan Goodfellow said:

"I cannot wait to take the plunge and dive with these amazing giants of the deep. It has been a lifelong ambition to dive with sharks and I am relishing the opportunity to live this out at Deep Sea World. I am sure it will not be as daunting as facing a penalty kick."

Deep Sea World boasts the largest underwater walkthrough tunnel in the UK. Its main display holds 4.5 million litres of seawater and is home to one of Europe's largest collections of sharks, as well as 2,000 other fish including rays and crabs.

Stars of the display are the seven giant, three-metre-long sand tiger sharks and Stella the huge stingray.

Sand tiger sharks are found in tropical and temperate waters in the Atlantic, Indian and western Pacific Oceans, although the species is known by different common names in different regions including grey nurse shark in Australia and raggy-toothed shark in South Africa.

In the wild they mainly live in shallow coastal waters from the surf zone down to 60 metres, although individuals have been recorded from water as deep as 190 metres.

Sand tiger sharks are constantly replacing blunt, damaged or old teeth and it has been estimated a single shark can have up to 30,000 teeth in a lifetime!

Issued jointly by DAFC and Deep Sea World. For more information and to arrange interviews and picture/filming opportunities please contact Irene Cebrian on 01383 411880 ext 101.
