No change in fortunes at Dingwall

“We will take the luck when it comes but hopefully we won’t need luck and we will be good enough to put the game to bed.

Joe Thomson was one of Dunfermline’s best players on Saturday, working tirelessly and taking the match to Ross County at every opportunity throughout the ninety minutes. He felt that the 2-1 defeat was far from satisfactory:-

“We only came away beaten by one but it is still not good enough for where we want to be. Before the game we were targeting three points. The sending off doesn’t change it, the disappointing thing is that we lost two goals from corners. Both them could have been avoided, it is frustrating. Any kind of defeat is frustrating.

“We created chances and defended well as a team but again we have come away with nothing. We will be back in on Monday and working on taking three points off Morton next week.”

After just one win at Alloa, in the last six league games the 21 year old midfielder says the players are trying to keep each other going to maintain a positive mood.

“I don’t think our performances have showed that we are letting it affect us. We still put in a shift on Saturday and worked hard. Against Falkirk in the last game we absolutely battered them and got beat 1-0. I don’t think we are letting it affect us, it is just that luck (we need). I’m sure that it will come but hopefully sooner rather than later.”

Joe admitted that with Faissal El Bakhtaoui’s shot pushed out by keeper Scott Fox on to the shin of Ross Draper and then back off him into the Ross County net that this was one of the first breaks that he has experienced at Dunfermline.:-

“To be fair we got a bit of luck with our goal but I cannot think of any other time this season when we have had something like that. It always seems to be the other team that gets it week in week out. We will take the luck when it comes but hopefully we won’t need luck and we will be good enough to put the game to bed.”

Personal luck evaded Joe who had a good second half effort that just slipped wide, he added:-

“The longer the game was at 1-0 it felt as though we were still getting chances. Sometimes when the other team has so much of the ball they are going to make mistakes, that is when we have to be ready to take the chances.

“We did take our goal and after that we could have gone on to get an equaliser. I still had that belief myself.

“The lads at the back were defending really well, the two centre halves were brilliant. Sometimes when you are defending so much it is hard for them to get up the park.

“They were trying to push the game but the ones who weren’t doing as much defending as they were had to try and get up the pitch. If we don’t then we were just going to be defending for the full ninety minutes. We came to Dingwall to get a result and obviously it wasn’t enough.”
