Nick Phinn Post QOS

Saturday, 2nd May 2009

"We know we have the squad to be up there challenging. It was our target this season but things didn't work out that way. We have to put it behind us for next season.

Dunfermline at Queen of the South

Nick Phinn was interviewed after the game that saw him score his 12th goal of the season for Dunfermline Athletic.

"I wasn't due to start but Bell pulled up in the warm up so I got the nod to start. I was ready anyway - you always are. I was delighted with the result"

Nick responded to his Manager's comments that he was possibly requiring a rest from games.

"He knows it is my first season of breaking into the team and getting a run of games. You are always disappointed to be left out, you want to play every game especially when it is your first season. Even when its getting near the end you still want to play as many games as you can. So I was glad to eventually get the start.

"We came out of the traps flying today, we seemed to have them hemmed in right from the start. The breaks went for us. Andy Kirk has been very brave getting the header in as the keeper came out.

"In the first half of the season we were always there or thereabouts then in the second half we slipped down the table. We should never have been down there, we know that ourselves. We know that our home form has really let us down this year. We are probably one of the better teams away from home and if we only could have taken that into our home form, we would have been up there with the rest of them. It is something we have to look at and put right for next season.

"We know we have the squad to be up there challenging. It was our target this season but things didn't work out that way. We have to put it behind us for next season.

"We have tried changing formations, changing personnel but it didn't seem to work. Nobody can put their finger on it. We have two home games to go so hopefully with the pressure off we can take the performance from today into Tuesday night and into Saturday. It is possible for us to finish third at the end of the season if we win our remaining two games. As the Gaffer said before the game, that is our aim now to finish as high up the league as we can."
