Manager’s update

Tuesday, 28th Jul 2020

28/07/20: SC- “I think it shows a strength in that both chairmen have tried to be creative and come up with a solution rather than seeing it as a problem.“

Everyone is looking forward to seeing Dunfermline Athletic back on the football pitch, none more so than manager Stevie Crawford who today speculated on when pre season might begin for his squad:-

“We are looking at the first league cup fixture being on 6th October. But because there are five fixture dates and we are playing just four of them, it depends on when we are playing the first of them. If we are playing on 6th October we will be looking to start at the end of August but if the first fixture is on 10th October then we will be looking to start back around 1st September.”

Stevie commented on the recently announced tie up with Alloa Athletic to use their ground as a training facility:-

“We still have a great gym facility at East End Park and when you are working with players to try and develop them that is a massive side of the game. The balance is one of the challenges that we face but in the main it was to get the safe, secure environment in which to train.

“With Covid you are not sure with Council owned facilities if these places could end up closing gates. The chairman and Mike Mulraney, the chairman at Alloa, have worked hard on it and I think that it is great for Scottish football that you have two clubs willing to work together.

“Alloa have to prep for games in a safe secure environment and make sure that their games are on but likewise if there was any reason that Alloa could not provide that facility the relationship works both ways. We would be reciprocal of looking after their needs as well.

“I can only see it as a win-win situation. Alloa over recent years have been one of the better part time teams in Scotland, they were a thorn in our flesh last year and I think it shows a strength in that both chairmen have tried to be creative and come up with a solution rather than seeing it as a problem.

“As a manager I know that we are going to have a good facility to train on next year.”
