Manager John Hughes felt that his side could have scored more goals in the first half of the derby match and were a little off it in the second half:

“Once again we kept that clean sheet and managed the game. We had a few chances in the second half as well but that is football. It is fine margins and O’Hara’s second one was a scrappy one from a setpiece.

“You are wishing that it happened earlier but we will take it. It is a good result but as I said to the boys, we will take it one game at a time. We will not get carried away but that one is for the supporters.

“I said before the match that I knew that they would come out and lay their part. I didn’t have to ask them to do anything, there were over 5000 here tonight. It was a good advert for Scottish football and I’m just delighted that we won it.

Do you feel that you could maybe have had the game wrapped up a wee bit quicker?

“Yes I do but that’s football. You take it as long as we win the game and keep a clean sheet but we had enough chances to win the game in the first half when we were very very good. Second half we just had to manage it a little bit.

“I felt when They went 4-4-2 the game might have opened up for us in terms of straight lines. We are good at playing against that so it never quite materialised but it still created enough chances in the second half. I think we managed the game very very well.”

Kevin O’Hara came up trumps for you?

“Yes, I have had to have many a discussion with him. I think Kevin sees himself as an out and out goalscorer, which he is with left foot and right foot but I have asked him to put that to one side because usually these guys forget to press from the front and get after it. We have asked him to put that into his game and the goals will come.

“He got two goals tonight, he could have had another one but we will take the two and I am absolutely delighted for him.”

Welcome three points as well?

“That’s for the supporters and everyone connected to Dunfermline. It is three points hopefully towards our survival in this league. We are under no illusions, we know that there is all to play for and we need to stick together and stick to battling away.”

Confidence must be huge now?

“That’s a good question. I have been in that situation myself and apart from Inverness, if you had seen us over the last three or four games to be where we are and play the style of football that we are, right on the front foot, the fans are enjoying it.

“I can see a connection with them. To do that is all credit to the players. They work very hard on the training pitch, there is a good spirit amongst them and I think that is evident and shows up on the pitch.”
