Dunfermline manager Stevie Crawford said that he knew when the draw was made that this would be a tough cup tie to win.

“I was surprised when the Scottish Cup was back up and running again but we have come down tonight, competed, put bodies on the line when we were asked to defensively and it is fine margins.

“I think they have hit the post once and Kevin O’Hara was very unlucky with a header as well. There was not much in the game and we are just disappointed that we have lost out on penalties in the end.”

Dunfermline exited the competition in the same way as they were knocked out of the Betfred Cup. Stevie continued:-

“That’s twice we have faced that this season. You either feel sorry for yourself or it’s character building. I was disappointed with Saturday and some things I saw in the team during the Inverness game. But tonight, the boys who came in showed character.

“It is not easy to play out there on that surface the way it is at the moment but I am not making excuses. We came down here, competed and boys showed what it meant to play for the club and unfortunately we have come away losing the game on penalties.”

You made seven changes in your starting eleven but that meant you had some players who had barely played 90 minutes never mind asking them to go the 120?

“Yes and credit to them for the way that they train. We are disappointed, we wanted to progress in this tournament. We know that Morton is a very difficult place to come down to but I am really happy with the way the boys went in and showed a desire to do well.

“We are going to need everybody over the next four or five weeks with what is going to be thrown at us now in the league fixtures. Other than the disappointment of the result, we have just got to make sure that we recover properly now for the Dundee game at the weekend.”
