Allan Johnston felt that was just the way to start the New Year - beating your rivals.
"I don`t think anybody could say that we didn`t deserve that. Going forward we looked really threatening, our two strikers caused them all sorts of problems. There was a lot of good individual performances. Big Jean he came in, obviously he has not been playing recently but I thought he was outstanding.
"Lee Robinson is just in the door, he had a couple of really important saves but I thought everybody did well today. That is the standard that we have to set week in week out and make sure that we start climbing the table again."
Lee Robinson was an ever present through Allan Johnston`s success Challenge Cup and League winning season at Queen of the South (2012-2013) so he knows the 31 year old keeper well.
"He was a big part of that success. He is a really good goalkeeper, he is really agile - you can see that with some of his saves. He is obviously good at kicking and I`m sure that (today) will do wonders for his confidence as well. It gives that added competition as well. We are still looking to strengthen and you can see that we have a good squad of players and hopefully we can take it forward now."
The manager agreed that it was important to maintain discipline in this local derby that has see it`s fair share of red card over the previous three matches between the sides played this season:-
"Especially with the stuff going on at the side. I thought it was a really good atmosphere though. I thought both sets of fans got right behind their teams and it was great to get a win here with a really good performance for the fans. We were on a really poor run before the Brechin game and t is good to give them something to shout about and go into work tomorrow morning with the bragging rights."
The Pars boss praised the great discipline shown by Dean Shiels given provocation from the visiting fans:-
"You never like to hear things like that, it is poor and that`s why it was important to get the win. He had a lot to deal with, I think the whole club has. We have dealt it professionally and you just have to move on. It is unacceptable in this day and age.
"The most important thing was getting the win, especially against Falkirk. You see the rivalry and hopefully there will be many more to come."
Keeper Lee Robinson made an immediate impact, possibly reducing the concerns over Sean Murdoch`s injury but he could be out for an indeterminate period. AJ explained:-
"We don`t know how long he will be out and that is why we had to get Lee in really quickly. It is one of those injuries that you cannot tell how long it is going to be. It is just how it settles down. He has a week where he has done nothing and it is the exact same. We just have to be patient and wait until he is back."
The manager had no qualms over pitching Lee Robinson into the derby game:-
"He was in training yesterday, he is a really confident lad and training a lot but that doesn`t make up for match practice. He is one of those guys who has the confidence to come in no matter what is going on."
