- - Listen to this Stevie Crawford interview

Stevie Crawford felt that his team lost two bad goals, their first in the tournament which made it difficult for them. Given the amount of crosses, the possession and the chances created it was more than enough to win a game of football. Although a goal behind with four minutes remaining, Stevie claimed that he was always confident that a win would come:-

“We ended up putting Lewis McCann on for those last eight to ten minutes to try and unsettle them. Albeit there was a discussion between myself, Jason, Shieldsie and Whitts to decide whether to go with the three because I thought we were actually getting crosses into the box.

“It proved to be the correct decision because it unsettled them and he ended up winning the header further back the park. Kyle Turner and then Kevin O’Hara helped it along. We just had a couple of bodies further up the park.

“I think there is a belief in the squad. We came back against Inverness earlier in the season and won against a difficult side. To go and win the game as late as we did makes it nerve racking at times but it is also exciting for us knowing that the team are going to dig deep and go to the last minute to try and win the game.

“We went in (at half time) behind but I didn’t feel panicky myself. I said to them that it was a different test for us today. I thought we had opportunities in the game and we just needed to remain focused and make sure if more opportunities come we take them. I didn’t anticipate that we were going to lose a second goal so it did not make it an enjoyable second half.

“The introduction of Kyle Turner, Dom Thomas and Lewis McCann was very positive. I know we go on about fine detail and it is something that Jason works on with the boys in trying to aim free kicks on the back post and inswingers. It is hard for a keeper to judge and if somebody gets a touch on it he has got to anticipate that.

“We were maybe a bit fortunate for it to end up in the back of the net but we were throwing bodies forward to try and win the game and not settle for it ending 2-2.”

Nineteen year old Matty Bowman made his first competitive appearance starting at right back in the absence of the injured Aaron Comrie and Lewis Mayo on international duty. SC commented on Marty’s contribution:-

“I thought that he was excellent and he has had to be very patient. He has not had it easy, going forward he has been terrific and you could see today. Going down that right side for a young man making his debut, he has done well and there will be progression in Matty. We will continue to work with him and see how he goes for the rest of the season.”

Asked who he might fancy in Sunday’s Betfred Cup draw, Stevie replied:-

“I am just happy that we have progressed in the tournament. After the Kilmarnock game I said that we still probably needed a result, it happened to be the case today. The fact that we are through as a seeded side then it would be nice to get a home tie but I am happy to progress in the tournament and it is not in our hands who we are drawn against tomorrow. At least we can watch it with a bit of excitement.”
