Managers Post Partick

Tuesday, 14th Dec 2010

14/12/10: JM - "Thistle are a good side, they have good players and a good manager. For me I thought they did quite well tonight; you have got to applaud the opposition at times. We deserved the point."

Jim McIntyre
felt that his team got what they deserved from the match against Partick Thistle:-

"I can't be too displeased; I think a point is fair for both sides. There wasn't a great deal of quality in the game. We huffed and puffed, got into good areas but our final ball let us down on the night.

"The pleasing aspects are that it is another clean sheet and we are still unbeaten at home. Those are the positives to take from it when you have not played at your best and yet still taken something from the game. We are disappointed not to get the three points but I don't think we did enough to deserve them."

Asked if he had been told that the pitch would have been cleared and two matches would have gone ahead, would he have been content with four points, Macca predictably showed his hunger:-

"No, I would always want to take the six. If I was a betting man I would have said 'no I will take my chances'. We deserved to win the game on the second half performance on Saturday and although we didn't do enough to win tonight, equally we did not deserve to lose tonight.

"Thistle are a good side, they have good players and a good manager. For me I thought they did quite well tonight; you have got to applaud the opposition at times. We deserved the point."

The management team threw on two substitutes with more than half an hour to go but this evening the switch didn't have the desired effect.

"It didn't spark; you are trying to find a spark from somewhere. As I said on Saturday, it is nothing to do with managers it is to do with players. Players come on and with a wee bit of magic produce something out of nothing; that's what was need tonight. There were two very efficient teams but no spark there. Final ball, cutting edge - call it what you will - it just wasn't there tonight."

The gaffer felt that his team was fairly sound defensively:-

"We weren't troubled too many times because Thistle have good movement especially with Simon Donnelly dropping in the hole, he is a clever player who has caused us problems before. Two clean sheets on the bounce and that is something that we want to get more often. All credit to the back four."

Partick manager Ian McCall was hoping that his team could have edged a win.

"I didn't think we took care enough in the last third with that final wee ball. Two or three times we had opportunities for one on ones with the goalie but we just didn't quite do it. I am really really pleased; I am pleased with their effort and I think we have six or seven boys now who, if we can get ourselves together as a club, can go on and have a right good career.  It has taken them a while to get going but that was the league leaders tonight and I don't think that there was a lot between the teams.

"I don't think any team deserved to win it, a draw was probably fair. We came here, got a draw and they are disappointed that we didn't win the game.  We are on a good run of form now - just a couple of defeats in 10 or 11 games and we have to keep it going.

"It was a good game of football for 0-0; both teams tried to pass the ball and move it about the pitch. I think the team that finishes above Dunfermline will probably win it."
