Managers Post Ayr United

Saturday, 10th Oct 2009

10/10/09: JM - "We are hoping that this is the springboard because we have Ross County on Tuesday night and Inverness on Saturday. The way the table looks can all change in the matter of a week.

Jim McIntyre

Jim McIntyre said that he was delighted to take the three points from the match against Ayr United:-

"It was as poor as we have played at home football wise; Ayr were the better side in the first half but we had the better goalscoring chances. In the second half we scored against the run of play and then for a 20 minute period I thought that we were excellent. That won us the game.

"Craig Samson had some great saves and the final pass might have picked out players. Wee Joe Cardle had one when he got to the byeline and should have picked Kirkie out. It was all about three points today especially given recent results.

"We are hoping that this is the springboard because we have Ross County on Tuesday night and Inverness on Saturday. The way the table looks can all change in the matter of a week. It is very important coming off the back of five defeats, if you include the cup one. We had to stop that or else it really does drain the confidence. Today was all about three points and we got them."

The match was won in the first twenty minutes of the second half but the Manager claimed that his team had played that way in many of the games this season where the outcome was not the same.

"We did the same to Queen of the South for the whole first half but came off 4-1 down because of individual errors. If we can cut them out and keep passing the ball - today we never passed the ball but we won 3-1. It is all about taking your chances when they come along."

The Pars gaffer felt that the penalty awarded to Ayr was a stonewaller:-

"It was a poor decision (by the keeper)."

Macca was disappointed that Andy Kirk would miss the trip to Dingwall because he had been called up into the Northern Ireland squad for the World Cup qualifier against Czech Republic in Prague but was delighted for the player:-

"A couple of injuries have presented him with an opportunity and that is fantastic for our club to have a player go away to play against the Czech Republic. The double edge sword of it is that we lose him for Tuesday night because he is back on the goal trail."

Brian Reid returns to East End Park with Ayr United

Ayr United manager Brian Reid felt that he maybe made the mistake of praising his team too highly at half time:-

"Dunfermline got a wee bit of a rollicking and came out a wee bit more hungry. We lost a slack goal when we failed to stop the cross, the centre half slipped in the box and they scored from there. The second one deflection and before we know it we are 3-0 down totally against the run of play and undeserved. We will need to learn to be a bit more cutting edge in front of goal. It has been the story of our season, we need to be taking chances when we are creating them. It is the final ball that is killing us."

"We are very disappointed because we felt that we could have got something today.  At half time the worst I was feeling that we could get was a draw."
