20/02/16: AJ- "You could see that the conditions were difficult, the pitch is a bit heavy but we still managed to pass it about and create a few chances.

Allan Johnston was happy with the victory over Brechin but admitted that they had left their hosts a lifeline by scoring with only two of their 20 attempts on goal.

"When you don't take your chances like that you are always open. Thomson is dangerous in the air and if something had fallen at somebody's feet. I suppose the pleasing thing is that we created chances but we know that we have to take them, we have to be more clinical and we have done that for the majority of the season."

One or two of the misses were bad ones but Michael Paton's in 58 minutes was spectacular. Somehow the Pars player managed to clear the bar when faced with an open goal from no more than six yards. The manager commented:-

"I asked him if it bobbled but I don't think it can bobble when it's in the air. I don't know what happened there. It was important to come here and get the three points. You could see that the conditions were difficult, the pitch is a bit heavy but we still managed to pass it about and create a few chances.

"Credit to Brechin they kept on going and had a couple of half chances towards the end. There are always going to be chances like that created and it is hard to defend that."

Ben Richards-Everton scored what turned out to be the winning goal just four minutes before half time. The goal sparked severe protests from the home players earning two of them yellow cards for their men. His manager felt that he had waited too long to notch his second ever Pars goal:-

"It is about time he got a goal to be fair. Given the size of him he should be attacking everything and winning everything. The frustrating thing for us was losing a goal from a corner. We were 1-0 ahead and looked as though we could probably have gone on to get four or five, any score because we were that much in command.

"They got a goal back from a corner that we should simply have dealt with to start with. It was a long ball over the top and then let them have a free header at the corner."

Peterhead took their undefeated league run to 13 matches as they won 3-2 at Cowdenbeath so the Pars win at Brechin was important in maintaining the right point cushion that the East End Park club over their north east rivals.

"As I have said before it is about what we do, we need to concentrate on ourselves but Peterhead are doing well, it is incredible the run that they are on."
