Man of the Match ready for next Thistle

Wednesday, 23rd Mar 2022

“We got a good result up there last time so we hope to do that again”

With two assists and a goal there was only going to be one cinch Championship Man of the Match on Tuesday night - Dom Thomas . It was great reward for a player frustrated by being out through injury and then waiting to get a start.

“That’s what I’m expected to do” said Dom “I knew when I got the chance I could take it so I was confident in myself and to be fair everyone at the club, the manager and the staff, are confident in me as well. I knew when I got on the pitch I had to deliver.”

Dom sat on the bench for six matches before getting his start against Morton on Friday night and he confessed that it had been hard watching on:-

“I got my op late December and I wanted to be back in two weeks. I knew that couldn’t be done but I was on to the physio every day to let me back into training. To be fair to Tommy Scanlon he was brilliant with me. He got me back fit and strong and feeling better than before, so all credit to him. But the gaffer had to keep the reins on me, dipped me in and out of training and when the games started I wanted to play every week.

“When you’re watching your own team from the bench or the stands you’re helpless, you can’t control it. For me sitting on the bench was frustrating when I knew I could be doing what I do. I had to keep trust in the manager and his timing was perfect and putting me in the last two games has helped the team out and we got points on the board.”

The three points from the Partick Thistle match comes at a crucial stage of the season, few would dispute they were deserved and some would claim that they deserved three rather than one point from the Morton match on Friday night but Dom felt the success has definitely been coming:-

“Football can be a cruel game and you don’t always get what you deserve and the boys know that. We had to dig in against Partick, going one down. We had to show character to keep playing the right way and we got a result.

“Even when we’ve not been getting the results we`ve been playing the right way. I know it’s hard for people and fans to see that we’re trying to do the right things. Now it’s coming together, performances and results and that’s what we need to keep doing.”

Dom took particular pleasure teeing up Josh Edwards for a goal and for sending the fans away happy with the 4-1 win:-

“They’ve always been with us, even through the tough times. You see them turning out in their numbers here, they can only be pleased with the way we’re playing now and getting results. Long may that continue.

“I knew it was Josh Edwards first senior goal because we slaughter him everyday for not scoring a goal. When I saw him breaking into the box I thought I had to give him a chance to score. I thought he’d put it over the bar! I slipped him in on Friday night and he passed back to the keeper so that was at the back of my head. I’m delighted for Josh, he’s a great boy and works hard everyday. He’s coming on leaps and bounds.”

Dom claimed that it is a great dressing room at Dunfermline with a good mix of experience and youth.

“We know what’s required, we’ve got six cup finals left and the boys know that. We need to win as many games as possible and the boys are confident we can do that.

“We’re definitely looking up the way, in football you’ve always got to look up. There are a few teams ahead of us we can catch and we’ve still got to play them, especially at home. We want to play well and win and I think that’s coming together.”

Dom Thomas scored the winning goal in the Caledonian Stadium back in November, can the Pars win again on Saturday? Dom closed:-

“Inverness is a hard place to go, they’re going for the play-offs and we’re fighting for our lives. We got a good result up there last time so we hope to do that again”
