Dressing room truths spur on the right reaction

Liam Buchanan

Liam Buchanan claims that the win at Kilmarnock on Saturday was something that the management, players and staff knew they had in them:-

"We have let ourselves down in the last couple weeks performance wise and we know that this is just one game but we know we have quality in that changing room and on our day we can put in performances like that.

"I missed a couple but you take confidence that you are getting chances. I knew if I kept working hard I would get another one in and I just had to make sure that it could be put away."

Liam proved the perfect pass for Andy Barrowman to open the scoring just three minutes from half time, Joe Cardle doubled that lead on the hour and then at the end Liam capitalised on great awareness from Andy Kirk out on the right to set up the former Partick Thistle striker with Dunfermline's third, three minutes from full time.

Liam Buchanan makes it 3-0

"He played me in. I knew that I would get another chance and thankfully I put it away This result will breed confidence but we still have to keep our feet on the ground, it is only one win, one performance. We have Motherwell on Tuesday but that has certainly given us a lift."

That was sorely needed after mentions (but no reports) of heated exchanges in the changing room after the defeat to Inverness on Wednesday:-

"It was a positive discussion. It maybe helped as there were some boys and the Manager especially who had things that they wanted to say and get off their chests. At times you need that rollocking to get the wake up call that you need. We are just up in the Premier League and we want to make the best of it.

"Performances like the cup game on Wednesday night are just not good enough. We let each other know, that's the only way that we are going to go forward. It was good to come here today and get the right reaction."

The team try not to take notice of comments that Dunfermline Athletic are already as good as relegated but Liam said:-

"We maybe had a point to prove but we are confident of our own ability and we know we have quality players, even though we are bottom of the league we know amongst us that we have what it takes to get us out of there."

The second week in January ended with the disappointment of defeat to nearest rivals Hibs and then they were knocked out of the Scottish Cup at home by Inverness Caley Thistle but just three days later the fourth away win in the SPL completely altered the mood. Liam said that is why you can never let your head go down too much in football.

"One win coupled Hibs getting beat lifts us a little bit. We need to kick on Tuesday and get another positive result."
