Joe Cardle's Hattrick

Saturday, 23rd Jan 2010

"It is not very often that I get two goals in a game and I thought 'if I get another chance I could get a hattrick'. I took it; I came inside and put it into the bottom corner.

Partick Thistle v Dunfermline

Clutching the match ball, Joe Cardle talked about his first ever hattrick:-

"My Dad was going to come up for the game today but I told him not to this morning. He is going to be a bit disappointed so I dedicate my hattrick to my da'."

Joe had advised his father that the trip from Lancashire might be fruitless:-

"He normally comes up but because I knew yesterday that I was starting the game on the bench I told him not to come up. I was happy to come on at half time and get us the three goals.

Joe Cardle strikes number two

"It was one of those games where there had to be a goal from somewhere. Getting the first goal was brilliant, then the second and then the third. It is not very often that I get two goals in a game and I thought 'if I get another chance I could get a hattrick'. I took it; I came inside and put it into the bottom corner.

"I was playing against Greg Shields and I trained against him last season. He is an experienced pro, a good player but I am over the moon with the result."

Joe has had a difficult time not starting the games since just coming back from an injury to his hand and then his ankle:-

" I have been on the bench for the last few games. I want to play every week and I have maybe been miserable in training but I came on today and am happy to be back in the team. Hopefully I can keep on improving and get myself in that starting eleven again.

Cardle completes hattrick

"I was playing regularly at Airdrie but knew that there was going to be competition every week, that's why you come to a bigger club. The boys who have been playing in front of me, Willie Gibson and Davie Graham have been playing well every week so there is nothing I can complain about, I had to wait my chance today at half time.

"I think I took it, it was my first hattrick and I am very pleased to be honest. It was a good day all round because my best friend at the club, Calum Woods got on the scoresheet. I am happy because of what has been going on in the last couple of weeks."

A great finish to top winning the SFA appeal on Thursday:-

"When we found out the news we were over the moon. We need to concentrate on Tuesday's game now, it is a big game and they will be up for it."
