Jim Hamilton seeks chances

Jim Hamilton acknowledges that the next match against his former club is very important but he was reluctant to give the Motherwell dressing room any fodder to raise the stakes ahead of what has to be a six pointer of a fixture on Saturday. Speaking exclusively to the website, Hammy chose his words with care:-

"It would be a nice one to win to develop a gap; everybody is saying that it is an important relegation battle but it would be a nice one to win because we can develop a gap. But following the poor performance at Inverness last time out, we didn't create a lot of chances; it always looked like a 0-0 game - we didn't get the luck on the day and on another day it is an 0-0 all over. We are just disappointed that we did not create enough chances on the day which is all down to the team. Yes we need to score goals but we need to create them as well .

Jim agreed with Scott Wilson's post match comments after the Inverness match where he pointed out that the former Well striker has had only one chance in five games:-

"Apart from one header from a corner in the home match against Rangers, I have not had one chance. Maybe folk will differ. Yes I had half a chance at Inverness.

"It is disappointing because you are looking for an early goal in your career at Dunfermline but I have not really had the chance to do it. Hopefully I can get one on Saturday. Everybody I have spoken to is saying 'you will probably do it on Saturday because it is your old team'. It is easier said than done; I need to get the chances and hopefully I can get one on Saturday.

"Hopefully we can get the supply because everybody knows that me and Stevie will score goals but there are players in the team who will score from other positions. Darren Young has done it in the last few weeks and there are other boys who can throw goals in as well, even defenders. It would be nice if Gary Mason could score the winner again. As long as we get three points I am not bothered who scores the goals but on a personal point it would be nice to get off the mark.

"We have had Celtic and Rangers where no one is expecting you to take points off them; we have have a run of it now where we have not to play Celtic or Rangers for a little while. We are looking to get as many points as possible.

"We know we are not a bottom six team and we are looking to get as close to it as possible. Folk are saying we are a relegation team but with the squad we have got we are definitely not that."

Hammy was so confident about that because he is really keen to strike up a partnership with Scotland internationalist Stevie Crawford:-

"I have worked with him at U21 level and known him throughout my career. I know how good a player he is and it is good to play with him eventually. We have Mark Burchill coming back which will be a big boost for the team, and a couple of long termers like Jim (McIntyre) and Noel (Whelan) coming back so it shows you the depth we have got. It is great that we have got competition because we have four or five excellent players who can score goals."
