Hippo hungry for more hits

Monday, 8th Oct 2018

“I nearly had a hat trick in those few minutes I was on ....

Coming on as an 81st minute substitute, Myles Hippolyte made a big impact in the derby match against his former club.

“I am trying to remember all the shots I had. I think my first one was saved by the keeper bottom right. It was a great save from him and then the second one was a great cross from Aidan Connolly and then I tried an overhead kick but I cannot remember but I think the keeper was over the line when he pushed it on to the bar. It stayed out.

“The final one was great play from Faiss. Louis tried to do the same thing two seconds before that which unfortunately the guy got his foot to.

“Faiss found me and luckily I got the chance to score. That is my first League goal (for Dunfermline) so I am delighted to get off the mark.

“The boys have done brilliantly and credit to their performance, they made it easy for me. I nearly had a hat trick in those few minutes I was on. Fair play to them as well for helping me.”

Myles scored 15 goals for Falkirk in his 66 appearances over the two years before he moved on to St Mirren in February this year. He featured six times for Falkirk in derbies against Dunfermline and discovered just what it was like on the other side in this fixture.

“Very different seeing the Falkirk fans chanting against you. It is part and parcel of football and just something you have to deal with. You are going to get that sometimes and you have to deal with.”

As he came on the Dunfermline fans were in full voice with a special song for him while the rest of the stadium greeted his return with the expected boos. He praised the way Pars fans have treated him since being signed by Allan Johnston in July.

“They have been excellent since I arrived, they have given me the same support that I have had pretty much at every club that I have gone to. It was class from them and I appreciate it.

“They make me very welcome even when I am going to somewhere like Falkirk, our rivals where they could maybe over shadow me with a lot of abuse. They have stood out and supported me, I enjoyed that.”

Those Pars fans in turn enjoyed what was an impressive victory over their arch rivals and Myles continued:-

“I am delighted for the squad, we did well and got the result. We came here for the victory and hopefully we can keep on the roll.

“I thought the boys played very well. We have done well so far, it was just a bit of getting use to the players and getting used to the formations as we change formations as well.”

The result opened an eight point gap between Dunfermline in fifth place and Falkirk rooted at the bottom of the table on just three. Myles admitted to having sympathy for his old club:-

“Definitely. Everybody who knows me personally knows that I like Falkirk, always have done and they have given me a great platform and a great chance in my career to get started. I think I have had most of my success in my career so far at Falkirk.

“I feel for them in these types of games. The way the season has gone, the last season and a half - it is hard to see on a club that two seasons ago was going so well. From such heights it does not look best at the moment. Last year Dunfermline were struggling for a couple of results but things can turn around and be positive.”

Myles turned the focus back on his current club where he feels the goal remains to win the league:-

“We could do that but for us the play offs are definitely achievable, without a doubt. Everybody in there is capable of doing that, if we can achieve that it will be perfect for us.

“Hopefully this result and results from the next couple of games we can creep up that table. It is going well but other teams appear to be doing very well. Shankland is doing well for Ayr - he scored again on Saturday. Dobbie got a hat trick and there are other boys who are on fire at the moment and doing very well.”

Appearances off the bench are fine but the 23 year old claimed that it was frustrating not to be starting, especially in a derby game against Falkirk:-

“I would want to be starting, however the gaffer picks the team and all I can do is come off the bench and when I get the opportunity, show him that I should be starting.

“It is a kick in the teeth when you don’t play in a game like that, however, you are going to get that in football. Hopefully what I did on Saturday hopefully proves to him that I am capable to start. That is the whole reason that I joined Dunfermline, to start games and be involved from the off.”

So after scoring his first league goal of the season and trying several other attempts on Saturday is it a striking role for Hippo? He explained where his experience lies:-

“Striking and left wing. I grew up as a young player playing upfront at Brentford. That is where I learned my trade, I thrived in that kind of role. Since then it has been mix and match and since I moved up to Scotland I have been playing right wing and left wing but I am happy to play in any of those three positions.

“Upfront is where I want to be but in some matches I can be a handful and help to the team playing left or right. I am not too fussed, I will play wherever the gaffer tells me.
