John Herron is on loan from Blackpool and he told the website that as soon as he discovered that it was Dunfermline who were interested in him, he was keen to move back to Scotland.
His contract at Blackpool extends for another two seasons but until January he will be much closer to his home in Coatbridge. He told the website:-
"I want to improve as a player. There were times at Blackpool when I was playing a lot of weeks and there were times when I had a week or two out of the team then back in. I have come here to Dunfermline to try and play games. That is not easy because it is a great squad of players, good technical players as well so it is going to be hard. It is up to me. I am here to try and play games and improve as a player."
The 22 year old who captained the Celtic youth team in the SFA Youth Cup final against Dunfermline three years ago has been very impressed by the Pars squad since arriving on the last day of August. He continued:-
"Hopefully I can get in the team. They are a great group of players, there is a great atmosphere and morale about the team. I like to get forward and like to think that I am a box to box midfielder. I like to score goals, create goals and hopefully I can do that for Dunfermline."
John had been at Celtic from the age of 8 and was capped at every level from Under 15 to Under 21. He knew Paul McMullan, another of that Celtic Youth Cup winning team and Paul spoke very highly of the squad and the manager when John contacted him.
"That kind of ticked that extra box that I needed. I knew a couple of the players and then when you walk about you find that you know more and more - the physio Kenny Murray was at Celtic with me, I used to play with David Hopkirk when he was at Celtic, Lee Ashcroft from Kilmarnock. It makes you settle in a wee bit quicker.
"When I was on loan to Cowdenbeath and played alongside Nat Wedderburn as well. He has made me very welcome as well."
John returned for pre season at Blackpool much later than the Scottish teams and with a "few problems" at Blackpool John had not trained for ten days prior to arriving at East End Park.
"I was trying to sort some stuff out at Blackpool but the manager asked me to play in the under 20s on Tuesday night and I got a good 70 minutes. Every minute helps but I feel fine. I am getting over the slackness and match fitness will come. I am physically fit but it is the sharpness that you lose. You get sharpness by training every day."
