Hamilton hoping for happy home start

Pars midfielder Chris Hamilton knew that when he commenced pre season the whole objective was to build towards Saturday’s opener against East Fife and of course he wanted to start the campaign with a win. The 2-0 victory was the Dunfermline-raised player’s debut and he said after it:-
“Since I signed I have been looking forward to this game and making my first proper debut. The fans were good, they turned out in their numbers. The first half was frustrating for everyone but second half we showed more of the team that we can be going forward.”
Chris felt that the team could have had a better first half but conceded East Fife played well and typified what is likely to happen in League One this season. There will be tricky away games to negotiate if the season is going to be the success that everyone is hoping for:-
“They made it difficult for us and with it being the first competitive game it is going to take a bit of time for us to get up to speed. We are going to go to places this season and even on Tuesday, Buckie Thistle will make it difficult for us. Throughout the season and even at home teams are going to make it difficult. A positive sign for us was our second half, we were much better, we grabbed a hold of the game and came away with a win and that is all we wanted.”
Chris put in his fair share of tackles and engaged in his usual robust way, he added:-
“I like that side of the game. There are other areas where I could improve, getting on the ball and start making things happen. The game was tough, there were a lot of battles out there, especially in midfield when you come to places like Bayview. It will be the same throughout the season going away to grounds where you are not given a lot of time. You have to be up for the battle. I think all the boys were.
“We didn’t get out fought, we didn’t get out run. We are going to have to do that and if we do that in the league, we can cause teams problems.”
Being tight defensively has been a big focus throughout pre season and the desire is to make sure that the side is solid at the back:-
“If you don’t concede goals then you don’t lose games. Obviously that is not just down to the back four. It comes from the front, from Kev, McCann and Wighty doing all the hard work and running about that they do. The midfield behind them working hard as well that makes it easier for the back four and Deniz.
“We are doing that well just now and we need to keep a focus on that because it is a massive part of the game. If we can do that throughout the season it will help us to win games.”
The 20 year old who joined Dunfermline in June after being part of a very successful Arbroath side last season, now wants to win as many group games as he can, resuming on Tuesday night with the match against Buckie Thistle. He predicted the Highland League runners up would be no easy push over:-
“There is no chance that we will go into the game thinking that we deserve to win. They will be coming down off the high of a good result on Saturday and we need to do what we did in the second half against East Fife. We need to be at it right from the start, we don’t give them a minute. If we work hard, we have the quality that will hopefully come through in the end.”
