Dunfermline Athletic

Graham Bayne Post Clyde

Monday, 12th Jan 2009

"It was a really swirly wind and driving rain at times, but it's a good result for us. It's a cup game and we're in the next round, that's really all that matters.

Graham Bayne v Clyde 10/01/09

Graham Bayne scored the Pars second goal against Clyde but admitted that he got a little bit lucky with it:-

"I tried to hit it a little bit flatter than I did and it's actually looped up in over the goalie but it's gone into the area I was hitting it so it's nice to get back on the scoresheet.

"The conditions played a massive part. It was a really swirly wind and driving rain at times, but it's a good result for us.  It's a cup game and we're in the next round, that's really all that matters.

"The second (goal) was always going to be vital. A one-goal lead, especially in conditions like these, anything can happen. Mistakes can be made in the box so you really do need the cushion and it kills it off a little bit."

Dunfermline v Clyde 10/01/09

At the age of 29 Bayne is a bit of a Scottish Cup veteran having played for Dundee, Raith Rovers, Arbroath, RossCounty and Inverness Caley Thistle in the country's oldest competition. He remembers well his finest game so far but would love to go on one of Dunfermline's famous cup runs.

Graham Bayne scored an 18th minute goal at the Caley Thistle Stadium in February 2007, his side were within two minutes of recording another cup upset

"I think to the quarter final against Celtic when we were 1-0 up at Inverness with a minute to go and we ended up losing 2-1, Steven Pressley and Kenny Miller scoring. That's the worst experience of my footballing career so far I have to say, so avoiding that would be nice.

"It would be great to get a run this year. It's a good chance to get a little break from league business and hopefully a realistic chance of winning a national competition.

But there are lots of good teams in the country so we'll just see what the draw brings up.

"Playing in the SPL the last four years there's not a massive gap between the majority of teams in the First Division and the bottom six of the Premier league. There really isn't that much in it and that's why First Division teams have put up such a good show in the last few years.

"Ourselves, Dundee, St Johnstone, there are good teams in this division.I'm sure a lot of Premier League teams wouldn't fancy going to those places. We'll see where the draw takes us and we'll take it from there."

Graham was pleased to make the game on Saturday and revealed that he wasn't as fit for it as he thought after illness had prevented him playing the previous Saturday:-

"I was a little bit tired. We had a practice match on Thursday and I actually thought I was feeling a lot better until we did that.I'm still feeling it a little bit so it took a little bit more out of me than I'd initially expected but I was delighted the manager gave me a shout to go in today and just to play as long as I could."

With Jamie Mole's arrival on loan from Hearts, Jim McIntyre will have more striking options. The new boy only met his new team mates just before the cup tie and Graham is looking forward to working with him:-

"I was just speaking to him there. He just arrived today. He's not played for 10 weeks he was saying so he said he was feeling it a little bit but we've got a reserve game on Monday night so he's going to get some minutes under his belt then. That'll have a good effect on his match fitness."
