Game set and match Turner

Sunday, 30th Jun 2019

“As you saw in the first half we want to force teams into making mistakes.

Kyle Turner made an eye catching debut for Dunfermline in the Pre Season Friendly at Forfar on Saturday. Not only did the Pars new signing, win a penalty, score the only goal of the game but he also made a really impressive contribution. He said:-

”It was good, it was just about getting fitness and minutes under the belt. It is always good to start with a win.”

For Pars fans getting their first sight of Kyle there was no doubt that he was a player who was eager to get involved. He commented:-

”That is my game, I like to get on the ball, I like to be brave, try and get forward to get in the box and score goals.”

There was no hiding his braveness as he picked up a knock from a trailing arm just before half time.

”It was tough out there, it was warm and it was on AstroTurf as well - your feet are burning. Forty five minutes was good and so it is on to Tuesday now and hopefully get a few more minutes.”

The goal that separated the sides was scored by Kyle he described how it came about:-

”I just saw Lewis (McCann) he had come down the line, I have just looked around me and I saw ten yards of space. Defenders were coming at me so I had to hit it first time and it flew into the top of the net.”

The 21 year old wasn`t willing to promise that every game but he did score nine goals last season at Stranraer.

”I am always trying to better what I do the following season. Hopefully I can add a few more goals and help the team. I will always give a hundred per cent for the team.”

Kyle has moved from four years in League One as a part timer to full time football in the Championship for the first time. He commented on the step up:-

”You need to be much fitter playing in the Championship. League One is tough but different and you don`t get much time on the ball in the Championship. You might get a little more time in your own half but still it is high intensity and the boys are bigger and stronger.”

Kyle faced Forfar eight times during the last two seasons so for him the physical side was no surprise:-

”With a bit of experience in League One, I know what to expect when playing against teams like Forfar. You need to use your body against teams like that.”

Kyle feels comfortable playing with his new team mates and considers them all to be on the same wavelength.

”We all know the way we want to play, the way we want to press high. As you saw in the first half we want to force teams into making mistakes.

”The training has been very good and they are trying to play the right way as well. It is tough but it is expected. We need to have tough, hard pre-season because when it gets into the tough winter months you need to have it in your legs, you have it in your tank to get through the bad times in the winter.

”They want us to press and be brave on the ball. You don`t want to come in and start shelling the ball long because teams want to make it a battle.

”I want to be scoring goals and picking up three points. We want to get the ball down, pass and move when it is on to play.”

Kyle is keen to bring that to the team and having played four times against Dumbarton last season including scoring the winning goal in the December meeting, the midfielder hopes to use his knowledge of Tuesday night’s opponents to Dunfermline’s advantage.

”I am looking forward to the Dumbarton game since that is another team that I have played against for a number of years.”
