Gabby positive he can fill void

Thursday, 5th Mar 2020

“If we keep getting chances I am confident that I will stick them away.”

Pars striker Gabby McGill spoke exclusively to this website after returning to the Dunfermline side for the match against Arbroath. He stepped in to replace the injured Kevin Nisbet and admitted that it could not have been one of the best games to watch:-

“I have mixed emotions really, for those who have seen the game and come down to watch. It definitely wasn’t pretty but we have dug it out and done what we had to do to get a point.

“I think overall we are pleased with that, we just need to win the next couple of games and looking back on it, it will be a positive point.

“The ball spent a lot of time up in the air, that is what we expected and that is exactly what we got. Everyone knows that Arbroath are that kind of team. They are going to rattle you, they are going to be physical, but we match them tonight and came away with a decent point.

“We knew that was how the game was going to pan out. I thought we matched them.

In the absence of Kevin Nisbet out with an ankle injury, 19 year old Gabby started upfront alongside Jon Afolabi for the second time in four matches. Gabby enjoyed playing alongside the Celtic loanee, just nine months his senior:-

“Jon is a hell of a player but building that partnership, it is only going to get better.” For Dunfermline’s sake that partnership might prove to be pivotal since Kevin Nesbit’s ankle ligament injury may keep the club’s top goalscorer out for some time.

“He has scored a helluva lot of goals and we have come to rely on him to win us games. So it is big shoes to fill but hopefully I will keep on doing my best and see how many goals I can score.”

Gabby opened his account with the opening goal in the 3-2 win at Palmerston on 1st February and he is desperate to add more:-

“It does give me an opportunity to show what I can do and I am disappointed not to score tonight. If we keep getting chances I am confident that I will stick them away.”
