Dunfermline entertained Brechin City in their final league game in November, it was the visitors first league match at East End Park since April 1994. After going off injured in last Saturday`s game at Airdrie, Ryan Scully was fit to return in goal but Ross Millen and Jordan Moore dropped out making way for Ryan Thomson and Ryan Williamson. The latter making his first team starting debut at the age of 17.

Brechin City manager Ray McKinnon brought in Paul McLean and Derek Carcary, out went Jonathan Brown and Andy Ryan.  It was the Angus side who kicked off attacking the goal at the McCathie stand end and although Dunfermline pressed early they were almost caught out inside 90 seconds. Craig Molloy broke on the counter with Alex Whittle tracking him back but Scully did just enough to thwart the City threat.

Ryan Scully saves

The Pars got themselves into a third minute lead however when Ryan WALLACE fired a good shot from 25 yards that gave City keeper Graeme Smith little chance. 1-0

Confidence was boosted and the home side spread the ball about in style with the visitors resorting to some heavy tackles in attempts to gain possession. Thomson put in a good cross from the right before in the tenth minute Wallace`s corner from the same side was glanced wide of the far post.

Ryan Wallace pulls the trigger on the first goal

Brechin got a shot in thirteen minutes when Paul McLean and then Andy Jackson did the spade work to allow Alan Trouten a stab from 25 yards that cleared the crossbar. Within a minute Carcary blasted a shot to the left post where Scully held after the ball rebounded back off his chest.

Three minutes past until Andy Geggan was given the chance to make ground down the middle to drive a powerful effort that Smith did well to turn away for a corner.  When Wallace sent that over Callum Morris` header brought out another good save from Smith on his goaline.

Shaun Byrne v Brechin City

Brechin City keeper Graeme Smith was yellow carded for protesting too much when Referee Des Roache awared the Pars a soft free kick on the right edge of the penalty box when Williamson was taken down. He was probably right to complain since Athletic scored from the setpiece. The ball was played back to Williamson who drove to the byeline and when his cross came across the face of goal Thomson was nearest but the ball went in off defender Ewan MOYES. 2-0 after 22 minutes.

Ryan Williamson crosses for the second goal

Seven minutes later Falkingham picked out Byrne on the right and the midfielder centred but the cross was just too high for Thomson and Wallace. It was one way traffic for a spell but Carcary did test Scully with a 35th minute shot.

Nice play from Williamson to Smith earned the Pars a 39th minute corner but the chance from that fell to Whittle lying deep and his effort soared over the bar. Wallace then smashed a shot on target from the edge of the box and Smith made a good job of stopping it.

Brechin rallied at the end with Kerr Young heading away a good delivery and although the inswinging corner was difficult the Pars defence cleared.

Half time: Dunfermline 2 Brechin City 0

The second half was three minutes old when Geggan played through Thomson but one on one with the keeper and then a defender from the break, the Par was not to be blessed with any luck. In 52 minutes the Pars defence had a remarkable escape when Andy Jackson headed back across the face of goal where Trouten failed to make the simplest of contacts required to score.

Des Roache shows Stuart Anderson a red card

Wallace lobbed a 58th minute free kick from deep in the direction of Geggan at the far post but too high. The visitors were then reduced to ten men when 54th minute substitute Stuart Anderson was shown red just five minutes after coming off the bench.

Wallace broke into the box on the left but fired his shot over the bar then he struck a 25 yard free kick the same route. Life drained out the match for a spell but revived when Williamson gathered and then tested the keeper following that by being instrumental in winning a 76th minute corner.

Paul McLean scores Brechin`s goal

With ten minutes to go Brechin forced a free kick down near the right cornerflag when Morris impeded Andy Jackson and they scored from the quickly taken setpiece. The Pars defence did not stop the free kick being taken and when picked out unmarked on the edge of the box Paul McLEAN met the ball to crash it home. 2-1

Callum Morris picked up a booking and Brechin pressed. It could well have been a nervy ending but in 87 minutes WALLACE found himself through to round the keeper and finish. 3-1 That sealed the win and another three points.  The second half performance had been fairly lacklustre and really the victory should have been sewn up much earlier against a fairly physical Brechin team.
