Ramsden Cup Second Round: Moore and Ferguson started. Hill (2) 0-1; Fox (65 pen.) 0-2

RAMSDEN AT EAST END PARK

MATCH PICTURES
Raith Rovers were the opponents for Dunfermline`s Ramsden Second Round Cup tie and following a win over Cowdenbeath in the First Round and then a 1-0 win over East Fife in the opening league game this match gave Jim Jefferies men the opportunity to complete the Fife Derby treble of wins all within 24 days.

Andy Geggan was played at right back and Ross Millen dropped to the bench.  On loan Jordan Moore started upfront meaning Ryan Thomson was back in midfield in place of Chris Kane. Stephen Husband returned from two successive two match bans to take a place on the bench.

Joe Cardle s back

Grant Murray made no changes from the Rovers eleven who started at Central Park on Saturday, so both former Pars Jason Thomson and Joe Cardle played against their old club.  It was the Rovers who kicked off attacking the goal at the McCathie Stand end.

An erratic clearance from Callum Morris lead to the visitors being gifted the first corner of the night. The delivery in from the left was met by Dougie HILL at the far post and his downward header opened the scoring after just 100 seconds.

When the Pars settled down they stroked the ball about meaningfully and earned a free kick in a central position 19 yards out in seventh minute when Paul Watson upended Josh Falkingham. Ryan Wallace battered the ball into the Rovers wall which did its job.

The flow was stopped in the next minute for an injury to Liam Fox. Physio, doctors, paramedics, stretchers all ventured out to the far side beyond the centre circle but after the injured player hobbled off the match resumed after a two minute stoppage and another 60 seconds on, so did Fox.

On 12 minutes a good chance fell to Moore some 16 yards out but he sent his shot over the crossbar.  Wallace pumped in a free kick from the left that Morris challenged for but was deflected behind for a Pars corner. Raith cleared that at their near post and it was the First Division team who were on the attack again with Fox breaking in on the left to drive a low shot outside the left goalpost.

Andy Geggan v Raith

A good Pars chance was created in 29 minutes by Shaun Byrne and the Raith keeper David McGurn was happy to turn the midfielders shot around his right hand post for a corner. Watson`s head firmly cleared at the setpiece and on the break Cardle flashed an inviting ball through the six yard box with Grant Anderson`s dive failing to make the telling connection.

On 36 minutes the home defence was nearly ripped open as Calum Elliot was allowed to shoot from the edge of the box. He miscued but set up Greig Spence who did all but score and the ball went out to the left where Cardle lashed it back only to see Morris get back in time to block at the near post. Quite a let off.

As half time approached Jason Thomson had the opportunity to fire a shot at goal but fortunately he pulled his shot right across goal.

Jordan Moore v Raith Rovers

Both sides made changes for the second half; Stephen Husband replaced Ryan Ferguson and for Raith Greig Spence went off and Gordon Smith came on.  First chance was for Rovers when Cardle`s low shot was held after he had controlled the rebound from his own 28 yard free kick off the Pars wall.

in 53 minutes Moon took down Falkingham but Wallace`s free kick was far too strong. It looked like the over reliance on Ross Millen at setpieces was beginning to show.  When Raith broke Cardle found himself presented with a fine opportunity in front of goal but managed to clear the bar when it looked easier to find the net.

Geggan skied a Smith cross to gift the Kirkcaldy side a corner on the right but they played that out before Ryan Scully fisted it away.  The Pars drum and songsters were full on as the match reached the hour but it was the opposition fans who got something to celebrate. Cardle made one of his familiar jinking runs and went over as Geggan stuck out a leg. The 65th minute corner was converted by Liam FOX putting the ball to the keeper`s right and although Scully went the right way he couldn`t keep it out. 0-2

Liam Fox scores from the spot

The Pars reacted with Moore`s cross from the left requiring McGurn to hold to deny Thomson close in. Husband and Geggan sent fierce deliveries into the Raith box but it was Moore`s that caused McGurn to pull off a save as the ball ricocheted off Watson.

Husband drilled a free kick in that was blocked and as time ran out for Jim Jefferies` team, Geggan sliced a good chance to score a consolation goal. It was to be Raith Rovers first cup win over the Pars since 1972 and their first cup win at East End Park for 66 years.
