Comrie takes positives from away day

“We were very unlucky, on another day I think we would have scored a couple, it just wasn’t to be.

Apart from the one goal conceded, Aaron Comrie felt that Saturday’s performance at the Global Energy Stadium against Premierleague opponents was a credit to the team and the hard work that they had put in in pre season to be able to give Ross County a match that they had to fight hard to win, he told the website:-

“We created a lot of chances ourselves but even in general play we went about our business really well. We sat in a good shape and looked dangerous when we had the ball.

“I thought we started the game well and with us being in League One now that is going to be massive. The manager has put a real priority on starting the game well and I think that was evident on Saturday.”

Even after going behind in 64th minute the Pars had numerous attempts to score an equaliser - Matty Todd and Lewis McCann had shots that came close and Craig Wighton had an effort that was kept out by the crossbar. Aaron continued:-

“Testimony to the boys, when Ross County scored the goal we still pushed on again and we had chances. We were very unlucky, on another day I think we would have scored a couple, it just wasn’t to be.

“I’m sure that there are plenty of positives to take from the game and I’m sure the fans appreciate that kind of performance like we do them making the long trip up to Dingwall. I think the respect was shown at the end of the game from both the fans and the players. It was nice to see them up there, obviously we never got the win but I think the performance was worth the journey.

“We want to qualify from the group, that’s the aim. We have done well in it in the past and certainly in my time here we have qualified every year. We still have a good chance at home to Alloa next week.”

Aaron is now entering his fourth season at East End Park under his fourth manager. Signed by Stevie Crawford, he also saw Peter Grant and John Hughes come on and go. They all placed faith in him and he amassed 101 appearances for Dunfermline before James McPake was appointed. Aaron has been very pleased with his new gaffer:-

“From when the manager has come in we have been made to forget about last season and there is real focus on doing well this year. It is a real young group of boys and boys who want to do well. I’m looking forward to the season and hopefully we can win a few more games.

“It has all been about playing on the front foot, trying to press teams, trying to win the ball back and score goals. That’s the aim of the game so hopefully we can do well.”

For Aaron it has been a re-union with Dave Mackay. He knows him from his years at St Johnstone where he even cleaned the new Assistant Manager’s boots, Aaron added: - “it is nice to have that relationship and he has been great since he came in.”

The new regime has made no secret of their demands for physical fitness and the 25 year old Pars defender admitted that it had been a tough pre season:-

“I think the boys are feeling it but you saw on Saturday that the boys do look match fit and that’s good for only being three competitive games in.”

Another new face around the squad is Kyle Benedictus and Aaron is enjoying playing alongside the 30 year old central defender:-

“We are getting on really good. I think he is a natural leader. He helps boys through the game - Rhys (Breen) is still young and Josh (Edwards) on the other side are still young as well. I think people forget that about Josh and he is still learning the game. Kyle has been a really good addition and hopefully we can keep that back four settled. So far we have not given much away so hopefully that continues.“
