Canary was buzzing to play

Paul Gallacher reflects on what he considers to be a great opportunity to get off the perch.

When Paul Gallacher first heard out about the chance to join Dunfermline Athletic his first call was to the Club Captain, Scott Thomson. By chance they had met while in holiday in Cyprus during the close season and Nipper's advice was all for Paul returning to Scottish football in Halbeath Road.  The goalkeeper explained:-

"I think Nipper put my name forward to the coaching staff and I was buzzing when I got the phone call.It didn't take me long to make my mind up to come."

Paul Gallacher made 36 appearances for Norwich City but with the arrival of David Marshall from Celtic the goalkeeping position became the 22 year old's at the expense of his fellow Glaswegian.

"Training everyday but not playing is just horrible; it is not an ideal situation to find yourself in."

Peter Grant is the Manager at Carrow Road and the ex Dundee United and scotland stopper understood where he lay in the order of preference:-

"The Manager likes him, Marsh worked hard when he went down there and has done alright.  When you are not playing football you have got to try and get away.The opportunity came here to play football so I grasped it.

"A few clubs were checking my availability but Dunfermline said that they wanted me to come up and challenge for the jersey. I couldn't say no to that and it gets me up closer to home as well.  I never thought that I would want to come up so soon but it feels right.The Club feels fantastic, they make you feel so welcome.

"I am enjoying my time here, it has been fantastic here.They gave me the chance to play, I am working hard in training - myself and Sean (Murdoch) are vying for that spot, luckily I have got it at the moment.I need to play well to retain that."

Paul who is still just 28, has been impressed by the quality in the Dunfermline squad:-

"We have a really strong squad.Against St Johnstone we had a lot of players on the park who have SPL experience.  Without being biased I felt we were the stronger of the two and created far more chances.  We should have scored a few goals but its typical if you don't take your chances when a mistake opens up at the end then they almost nick it.That would have been undeserved."
